Celebrity Edge Class cruise ship

iIn order to cope with the ever increasing physical size of the average cruise passenger, Celebrity Cruises have seen fit to install a massive fork lift on their new vessel to move them around and assist in loading!!!!!

Chris, that made me laugh so much when I read your post ....and I am still laughing at the thought.   ;D ;D

It does not matter what new design initiatives they come up with for these new ships.  There is one ship, sitting in Dubai whose design lines surpasses all and that is the "one and only" QE2

Maybe it is like one of those theme park rides where it rises slowly to the top then plummets towards the water?

Whatever will they think of next?

Has anyone at Celebrity considered the privacy issues of this contraption passing in front of passenger suites on its way up and down?????

Could they not blank wall the side that faces the ship?

If I had the money I'd be tempted to fill every cabin that this lift thing passes with bored American servicemen.  They'll soon generate enough complaints from passengers on the lift thing that it'll either be removed or blank walled...  ;D

I honestly (Sorry, I am a brutally honest person.) dislike the Celebrity ships. Too big and not very sleek.

Thanks for posting the picture of the Celebrity Edge ship Chris.  I have only sailed with Celebrity a couple of times over ten years ago, on the Constellation .  Nice ship and the standards were quite good.

I noticed the livery of the Celebrity Edge looks different to what I can remember on Celebrity ships, which  I think was white and dark blue.

Absolute carbuncle of a ship, externally at least. Should I be surprised in this day and age?...No!
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last stepped foot and sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2, in her new life, in Dubai back in January 2020.

Yes they have lightened the colors, remember that Celebrity was origionally Chandris Lines, Ships were White with light Blue Funnels and White X logo. This evolved into more use of Dark Blue on the Celebrity ships. I must say that I like the livery on the new one particularly the 'X' shaped funnel.

To me, the whole ship looks like a sports shoe - a trainer - it just looks ridiculous - a theme park at sea.

Hmmm. Wondering what that daft lift thing does to her stability?

In an attempt to redress the balance - heres the bow thruster room on the final ship of Celebrity's Solstice Class - Celebrity Reflection.

Taken during a commissioning voyage on her from Barcelona to Malaga in Nov 2012. Turbo Blower retrofit!!

That looks better methinks - big motors!!!!! :)

Interestingly, more and more ships are coming out with a straight stem.  Virgin's new ship has one, and many sport sailboats of all sizes are being built that way.  Makes me think of a WWI battleship !

The new Hurtigruten ships are also straight bow, probably cheaper than building a 'raked' one......
