Might be difficult to provide services, we always thing of Electric Water etc but its sewage removal that  would be most difficult

Given Dubai and its lack of a sewerage system, they should be experts in removal of the crap..

Given past experiences, a fan fare, some hype and then..nothing...no reason to think this time anything should be different..

Given that this August date has not been given officially by her managers, and was first posted on that website at least 5 months ago, I'm sure it'll just get extended or replaced with a later project date.  She's clearly still a long, long way from opening.

The Shafa group is NOT the only sub company onboard but they are the only ones that mention QE2 on there website.
Each company of course as a dateline to get job done.Shafa now in August and others later.

Well spotted.  Seems ironic to be calling it the swimming pool deck now... But the teak? Looks nice...

It's a shame the teak doesn't match with the rest, as also noticeable on Google Maps satellite photos, is it a different type or treated/varnished differently?. I suppose at least they used teak and not something else, or heaven forbid gone down to the bare metal!. They should call it One Deck now in keeping with the rest of the deck inside QE2.

I for one am glad concrete progress on her is finally being made after 9 long years in Dubai, I do however wonder like many others here on the forum as to how much of the QE2 we knew and love will be left when conversion/refurbishment work is complete maybe next year or in 2019?

Yes, Deck One swimming pool aft, gone. At least something is happening and it is better than seeing her sit and deteriorate. Let's hope they show other parts of the refurbishment in due course. Who knows, 'we' may be able to walk some of her decks in years to come. Let's hope & pray we can.

And so it begins (or is in full effect).  Piece by agonizing piece she will be transformed and become less of what she was - a glorious ship and historic icon - to become more of a mere backdrop to some business' bottom line.  Very sad.  She should have been scrapped in 2009; the mourning would well be over by now and it would certainly have been a much more dignified end.
