March 2017 -- QE2 at speed (closed)
« on: Mar 02, 2017, 03:37 PM »
This month's theme is "QE2 at speed", chosen by Skilly56, the winner of the December competition.

A theme showing what QE2 was created for!

The prize this month is  the book "RMS Queen Elizabeth 2" by Janette McCutcheon, donated by me.

Alternatively, June Ingram is offering a jigsaw of the prizewinning picture. The choice is yours -- which will it be?

The album is open -  so now is the time to look for your most interesting pictures on this theme. Wishing you happy memories as you search your photo collection to find up to three pictures to upload to the competition album.

This link will take you straight there : QE2 at speed.

If you have not uploaded photos to the Forum Gallery before, have a look at these instructions, and if you have any problems, just contact us on admin@theqe2story.com. You could even email the photos to this address, and we can upload them for you.

The deadline for submitting photos is 31 March 2017. Voting will run from 1 April 2017 until 30 April 2017.

We look forward to seeing your photos in this month's competition.

This is the seventh month of photos for the 2018 calendar. Maybe your photo will figure there!

Enjoy yourselves!  :)

Agreed Lynda!

I just wish I actually had been on the ship to be able to contribute to this. The only stuff I have of her underway is in the Clyde and she was hardly "out of 1st gear" - it was interesting in 2007 when we were escorting her downriver on Balmoral - once QE2 started to gather speed around Toward the old Bal was the only ship that could stay with her for a while - I seem to recall as far as Great Cumbrae - after QE2 discharged her pilot it was foot to the floor!

But I look forward to the contributions of others who had that ultimate privilege  8)

Hi Gav -

I know exactly what you are saying.  I have heard of QE2 being referred to as "The Speedboat" after discharging her pilot !

We need more pictures for this month's competition "QE2 at speed" How often were you up on deck and took photos of the ship cruising along but not being aware of the speed but she was going fast just the same.

Therein lies the problem - if you were on board you were aware of the speed but unless it was a force 10 with water crashing over the bow the photos don't do it justice!

As always, it is the people not on board that have the opportunity for the best pictures.

I'm still looking for something half decent though.

Only 14 photos entered so far, which would create a record for the smallest number of photos in our photo competitions.

Surely there must be more photos in our collections, showing QE2 at speed?

This month's competition requires a bit of imagination for your photo to fit the theme, but I am sure there are a few more photos that can be entered before the deadline of midnight tonight (BST) Still time to look for photos and upload them to the competition.
