QE2's Maiden Call to Dubai March 1997
« on: Feb 13, 2017, 11:00 AM »
QE2s maiden call to Dubai was back in March 1997 thats 20 years ago I was lucky enough to be onboard.
Going through my photos I only found 2 from the docking area.On one you can see a bit of QE2 docked
at the same berth as she is today just that she was turned the other way round. The terminal building was still not build
during this call.

On the other one you can see some local dancers, they are standing roughly in the position to were the lifeboats
and remains of the davits are today.

Back then who would who had thought that that dock would possibly be QE2s last resting place?

Fantastic find Louis and a piece of QE2 history.  As you say who would have thought that she would be docked there today.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Today 20 years ago QE2 makes her maiden call to Dubai, she then berthed at exactly the same
berth as she is in today.I was onboard.
Who would have thought then that that would be most likely be QE2s final resting place?

Amazing. I'm certain not one person on board then would correctly have guessed where she'd be today!

Not even the QE2 Mastermind winners! Very good prizes though.

Nice to see the old Daily Programs too.

I was online looking at photos of QE2 berthed in Dubai when I came upon these two photos of QE2 docking in Dubai for the first time in March 1997.

The photos as well as some details regarding them can be found here:

Excellent find!!
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.
