QE2 bits and some books for sale
« on: Jan 31, 2017, 12:36 AM »
Hello all,
I'm new here, this is my first post.
I'm looking to pass along a few items from my parents westbound trans-Atlantic in September of 1980.
If I'm posting this in the wrong area, please forgive me and tell me where it does belong (you folks sure have a lot of subcategories here!!).
I don't know how to post pictures here, but I'd be glad to email pictures and calculate shipping.
Many thanks-
Jim

Framed picture, key tag and storm picture.  The three pieces for $100USD.
-Here's a nice framed photo of the QE2.
-Measures: 15" x 21" with matting and glass. The story of the crossing is handwritten on the back by the passenger (my mom).
-Included with the picture is the the 1980 key tag from the stateroom.
-Also included is an unframed picture taken onboard by the ship's photographer of the QE2 smashing her bow through heavy seas during a hurricane in the fall of 1980.
-email me for pictures (contact info below).

ALSO:
18 books for $100USD
-Nice set of 18 books on ocean liners.
Many by Bill Miller and John Maxtone-Graham.
-Email me for ALL the titles and pictures of the books:
jamesmorecc  @  optonline. net
-All are in very good to excellent condition.
-They're located in northern NJ, 1/2 hour from Manhattan. Shipping and PayPal is possible.

Thanks-
Jim

Jim, you are very welcome here! Do feel at home onboard.

For the items you wish to sell, it would help us all to see what you are offering -- and perhaps you will also want to tell us some more of their story.

Try to reply to this post (you will find the "reply" button underneath), write something if you wish into the text box, and then click "attachments" under the text box in the grey zone. You can then upload your photos one by one by clicking "attachments" again as often as necessary. There is a maximum of about 6 photos per posting, then you can always start another reply and attach some more.

I hope this helps :) .

Hi Jim

Its Kevin

Not sure if I am sending these messages right, but I have noticed that you have kept in contact on this page more recently.

I can remember you from the TOW kitchen as the first Larder Cook from July 26th 1984 when I joined QE2. I worked on the grill then moved to the Queens grill to work with Richrd Carter.

Would like to ask you, do you know how to get hold of one of the QE2 50 YEARS BADGE?

It would be great to get a reply from you.

Regards,

Kevin.

Hi

Would you be interested in buying a Cunard QE2 sports bag containing contemporary ephemera associated with a trip on the QE2 from New York to Southampton May 1970?

The bag is in very good/fine condition. The zip functions well, the material is in good condition. Piping is slightly yellowed, there are small tears in the fabric either side of the zip and in the lining and there is some rubbing on the writing, but overall, not bad for a 50+ year old bag.

The the contemporary QE2 related material that came with the bag is in amazing condition, it looks much as it would have in 1970, when the passenger traveled via Caledonia Airways to New York City, spent a night at the Royal Manhattan then boarded the QE2 16:30 23/05/70.

From the cruise itself, there are menus for Friday and Saturday, itineraries for both days (9pm: The Adrian Titman Sound at 736 Discotheque with Biddy and Sue!) along with a QE2 Edition of the Telegraph, a list of timetables, fares for 1970 and an invitation from Cunard Line and & Executives of Mecca Ltd to join them at the Double Down Bar for cocktails at 7.15pm.

I've attached one picture, but can send you a full set if you're interested, there's a lot of great material including a price list of duty free items - 45 shillings for a bottle of Johnny Walker's and 200 B&H, those were the days :)

Just let me know what you think.

Kind regards.

Ian

If you are interested, please let us know here or by message to admin@theqe2story.com, and we can put you in touch with Ian.

Ian Roden has added this item of background information :

I found the bag at a car boot sale and planned to sell it as a retro accessory because it has great 1970s look to it. However, I didn’t want to sell it without the contents, it seemed wrong to chuck all that social history in recycling. So I’m on a search to find someone who will appreciate the bag, the ephemera and everything it says about the era when the QE2 was the last word in luxury transatlantic travel.
