Just a side note Rob,at Port Rashid and nearby areas taking photos of QE2 is not allowed and they make a big fuss about.
Some of these people that post on Instagram are locals and have nothing to do with QE2 but they can still get in trouble for taking photos.

When you want to contact these people do it in private message. Many spyies in Dubai check out these online social media platforms.

Fancy getting into bother cos of taking a photo of something that is in full view what's wrong with these people, one would think they'd be happy that us commoners were interested in their 9 years & counting   (dare we call it) project.

It's sad that even more names are being painted on her as opposed to the ones painted over or removed.

Bob, Maybe she will always keep both So'ton and Port Vila -
'Dubai" or Port Rashid aren't registration ports, are they?

This is an excellent close-up.
Has she got new uptakes - they used to be black and almost invisible.
The two large hoses from the ?sun-deck, hopefully might these relate to AC for the people working on board?
The rails almost beneath the tarps where so many passengers used to lean over in their special 'Titanic-Film moments...
Hands-up who watched...!
Long may they remain in situ.

Hi Rosie, regarding the seemingly new uptakes - I think they have just been properly cleaned up as Davina mentioned sometime last year that the funnel had been repainted - making sense for them to clean it too.

The clean uptakes are present in several photos Davina posted earlier this year in the same topic as the above mentioned.

It is unlikely "Port Villa" will be kept on the stern since she will never be a sea going ship again and will most likely be classified as a building (if she isn't already) like Queen Mary and Rotterdam. I hope they keep Southampton as a nod to her history and this seems likely since they have kept the metal plates making up the port name until now.

Speaking as a Moderator : Could we please try and focus discussion here on the photos from Dubai? The photos themselves, and what we see in them?

There are various existing topics where other questions can be discussed, and new topics can also be created. This will make it easier for readers in future to find some of these highly relevant discussions under the relevant headings. Thank you very much for your help!

Part 1 of my visit this month. Quality is not good as its from my IPhone and hands were shaking.  The hands bit is partly due to seeing her again after her final NYC departure, her current state and that I was somewhat in out of bounds areas taking most of these

She looks pretty terrible, yes.

I can see the sense in creating an outdoor cooler space to allow them to work and make a mess, without taking it inside.

What makes me laugh is they've got an awning up where there was a lifeboat, to provide shade.  When the lifeboat used to provide shade...

I was in tender 11 shown there in August 2008, it took us ashore in Cannes - very enjoyable trip it was too!

Thank you very much for the photos! It is good to see the lifeboats sitting there, seemingly intact. I wonder what their destiny is to be?

It also does look like work is going on... we can but wonder what that might be...

She needs a coat of paint. To be precise she needs a lot. Lol. I didn't notice the awning until, Rob, pointed it out. Makes me laugh as well, because the lifeboats provided enough shade.

At least they are still there and not destroyed. I do wonder, as well, what's being done. I liked her purple/pinkish carpet in the stairwells..

Thank you So much for these, JPNYC.
Please don't take too many risks off limits, hoping you are Okay?

Your photos are excellent.
Her stern looks pretty dreadful, doesn't it - grills on the mooring deck - mainly gone.
Some glass or similar / perspex - gone.
Light fittings - Gone.
Steps up on the starb'd side, possibly gone
Teak on railings, understandably perhaps - gone.
The two Cranes on the stern - gone.
To the 'untrained' eye it looks as if QE2 might nearly be - gone.

Just wondering now - how much more of QE2's identity will end up gone.

Thank you again JPNYC - this is a valuable and realistic way of keeping in touch

I remember that some of the original black plastic handrails were on her till the end.. I bet those were gone early..

The words  shadow & former self spring to mind here, O K  she's apparently a 'building site',  so might eventually be spruced up but it's a long time coming, interesting & pleasing  to note that the Cunard plaque still sits proudly on the water break  under the bridge (have given that a pat many times)

Hi Rob - are you able to enlarge the black-ness at foot of her mast?
It look as if sSomething' may be missing - unless it's me? (!)
It also looks as her port side cat's whisker may have disappeared - surely not...?
Thanks,

Just realised, that except from the piers in NYC, from the various bridges and taller buildings rounds the docks etc,
looking at the base of mast may usually hare been from lower down, and not at eye level!

This dust (i know it's Dubai, desert, hot, dusty) makes it look like she has a matte coating on her funnel and everywhere else.. And makes her look very dirty..

To be honest a Matte coat would do her some good. It would, at the very least, be easier to maintain and keep in presentable condition that her current gloss paintjob; That being said until she's open I doubt they will bother to paint or even clean her, the dust will simply settle again sadly.

In the above photo it looks like they're running an oil containment boom around her (mainly visible at the bow and the stern. Makes sense I suppose!

Just checked on Google Maps and they are running an oil containment boom around where she's docked.

I suspect it's just a precaution, can't think the HFO will be in a position to leak anymore for one reason.

What concerns me the most is all the open shell doors (open for ventilation etc.) if her stability is ever compromised (possible during major refurbishment/conversion work) I have visions of what happened to the old MSC Melody in China (although she's been repaired apparently).

I would think it  would be standard procedure where the vessel is in a static condition with works ongoing inside - I guess theres always the potential for some accidental discharge of fluids into the dock.
