Is this the reason for the removal of the boats; are they being replaced after the refurbishment is completed?
While we can only speculate that is quite likely; The removal of the davits could serve as you suggested to aid in the removal and delivery of materials, another likely reason for their removal is so they can be replaced with more streamlined davits minus their lowering mechanisms to allow for more space on the Boat Deck for recreation. That would also explain why the Lifeboats are still being stored in the vicinity, if they were never to be reinstated they would have been scraped a long time ago.

Lifeboats/Davits Removal 2016
This topic makes for interesting reading!

Interesting to get a good view of the officers cabins windows under the funnel and aft Penthouse block. Cunard always wanted to build new balcony Penthouses there but the obstruction by lifeboats always stopped the plan - even though such rooms were built on Vistafjord

Perhaps this is what Dubai plans - more (unobstructed) balcony cabins?

Hello Michael,
Just wondering (!) was there any reference to safety in case of fire / sinking etc when the matter you mention here was discussed?
Also - was each lifeboat able to work independently of the ship's engines?
If they were to turn QE2 into any type of residential establishment, do you think the Lifeboats would then be deemed necessary under any insurance plan?
It's interesting to note the configuration of the lifeboats on Rotterdam V - as on QE2, they darkened the Boat Deck, however they seem to have been kept in situ - maybe because it looks from some of the images that they don't seem to obstruct views from cabins.
It'll be good to know a bit more, and hoping you won't mind my asking !

Probably a mass removal of materials from inside the ship, they will most likely remove it soon enough.

Using Google Earth, I've established that that satellite photo was taken on the 4th of June.

It will be incredibly hot on board just now.

Yes, but I guess it's better than having her over the water to the east on a beach...

I made the following with my prior knowledge..
The problem is, Qe2 is an immaculate ship, built on the river Clyde, made numerous crossings, had major renovations, one in which she was re-engined in the mid eighties , thus major renovation in eighties allows her 30 (I think) more years (2016?) and is sold in 2007 (ten? Years early?)to some firm in Dubai for $$$ because everyone wants the newer ships, thus firm says that this plan is going to happen, thus plan doesn't happen, some amazing people in london try to get her back into British water, they are unable to, lord knows what's going on inside right now. These people bought the ship ten years ago and to us, the ship is precious and to people in Dubai it's just a peice of metal. Who knows maybe they are throwing out precious Cunard memorabilia, which in my opinion, should have been removed before QE2 got to Dubai. To them this stuff is just old junk. They don't give a damn about the ship. The concept drawings show! They won't keep those awesome lines! Peter, what I'm trying to say here is that carnival (?) screwed up and sold the mighty Queen Elizabeth 2 because she was nearing her final years and they didn't want the ship because they wanted more mega ships to take in $$$$$$$$.

Yes, carnival screwed up big time.

One point though - in that new Haynes QE2 book, the chapter about the re-engining specifically states "an additional 20 years of life".  So we might need to look more closely at what exactly was planned in terms of life when they initially stuck the diesels in her; it looks like there may be more to this than we thought.

My lord..

I think it was "given an offer they couldn't refuse for a 40 year old liner" - Carnival are a business machine where the bottom line rules the roost. Given a chance to offload an old vessel and replace with a new more modern, cheaper to run ship then a business (devoid of any emotion) will take that route.

50°C is also the point at which it actually becomes dangerous to humans; that is the temperature at which the proteins inside the brain start to break down.

Louis if you sat there eating pizza gazing over at your old ship, I'm sure you'd get a sensation of needing to get back on board before she sailed, which you must have felt many times in the old days.

WOW. Thats whats wrong with me!
On the Franconia it was 126 farenheight under the engine room fan. 180 waiting for the engine room elevator, over 200 closing steam valves to the engine room. QE2 180's at the elevator 200's at steam valves
over 200 behind the boilers if you had to change a boiler gauge glass .
