Yes, definitely - progress may be slowed by the essential hosing down beforehand...
Interesting that it's her starb'd side that's getting dressed, hopefully her port side will get the same treatment before the ships on their worldies arrive!
And - hopefully, they might get her whistle 'charged-up' too....
QE2 has been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 9 whole years... she seriously needs to be earning her keep....

Let's hope so, she was in a sorry state. If the boat deck, Queens Grill area etc was being stripped and a new restaurant put in then I would have expected more activity to have been caught on camera.

Certainly her forward area looks brighter in the last photograph.

Even with just a small amount painted, it makes such a difference for QE2.  I agree with Rosie in hopes QE2 is painted all the way around.   :)

Photos from this side always shows the ship lonely with no action on the other side is where you see the daily action with workers going onboard in the morning and leaving late afternoon, supply trucks come and go,garbage removed from ship piled up to one side and on the dockside filled with working equipments etc

True, but then we are seeing QE2 in a new light. Lets hope there is light at the end of the tunnel, and that its not an oncoming train.
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,

........A Queen, don't forget it Dubai.................................

I always remember the day she was launched and the sound of the ships and shipyard horns to welcome the new ship. When I went home I said to my Dad about the wonderful welcome that the ship had received and that I had never heard anything like it when other ships were launched at John Brown's.  My Dad's response was that she was no ordinary ship "she was a Queen"  Never to be forgotten!

They've had some snow in the UAE which has even forced part of the Dubai bicycle race to be cancelled - did this snow get anywhere near QE2?  It would make for a very surreal photograph if it did and anyone managed to capture it.

This is more like the QE2 we would want to see, an international icon within an iconic setting.

However it looks like there has been some manipulation of the background.  If you look at the second photo, posted in reply 9 five days ago, by deanashworth65 the building with the tall spire further to the right.  Whereas in this photo it is to the left of QE2's bow.

Lets see what other photos are posted with the QE2 with her lights on.

I think it's simply down to the slightly different angle from which the two pictures were taken; it only takes a very slight change of angle to make a big parallax difference between an object near to the camera and one in the background.

Am I right in thinking the building in question is the Burj?

Yes, it could be the angle that the photo was taken.  It is difficult to imagine the scene when you have not visited the area .

I hope there are more photos of the ship with the lights on  :)

The attached photos were taken by Edward Warburton on the 9th of Feb from the public road using a zoom.

They therefore are handy to show someone when they ask "what can I see of QE2 when I go to Dubai", which is a recurring question!

From the main road only a few gaps are open where you can see QE2,from this guys position QE2 is roughly 330 meters away.

If I was them, I'd build in a loop of public road that takes them into a public car park adjacent to QE2.  They'll have to do this one way or another anyway, presumably.

The area next to QE2 and the rest of Port Rashid will be revamped over the next years.Port Rashid will hold a marina and docking for cruise ships all commercial ships will move to Jebel Ali.

QE2s present location is most likely not to be the last.QE2 will still be moved 2 times at least.

Are they upgrading the pluming system on the ship? I can remember from the Rotterdam that they replaced most of during the conversion, because of years of layup didn't help, and a lot of the original piping was still in use at that time.
