Interesting to get a good view of the officers cabins windows under the funnel and aft Penthouse block. Cunard always wanted to build new balcony Penthouses there but the obstruction by lifeboats always stopped the plan - even though such rooms were built on Vistafjord

Perhaps this is what Dubai plans - more (unobstructed) balcony cabins?

Interesting given the Sun Deck penthouses already had boats in front of them. I assume it was the larger boats (8-11) that caused the issue? Then again, for extra revenue why not just have moved the bigger boats further aft - perhaps a weigh issue?

They had already planned a transparent funnel, maybe now they're planning transparent lifeboats?

That funnel was never a oficial plan

What do you mean by that? I have a copy of the glass funnel plan...

Hmm - Perhaps!
The 'deconstruction' of the 'davits and Safety Boats' has already altered her profile, particularly along the aft area of her boat deck...
Her 'shape' profile at that level will be looking bare now - her style would be eroded further still.
Doesn't this make 'Deck 13' pale into insignificance! ;)

(It wouldn't do, to ruin her Sun Deck used for that NYE party, would it!)

The glass funnel with her original funnel as an entrance way figures in a number of published plans.  Thank goodness none of those things happened !

Just read through this thread for the first time.

Just to say I was one of the "guilty" ones who used the moron word and I meant it. As Rob has said, NO ONE is talkiing down the actual people who work on board, they're just carrying out what they're told to do.  It's the owners who are morons! luckily they can't buy the Mona Lisa or other great works of art as they'd most likely want to carry out  "improvements" to those as well >:(

These are the officers cabins on Sun Deck Cunard always wanted to turn into additional Penthouse accommodation:

Interesting are the davits designed to be inter replacable or for one position only, as they appear to be just mixed up does this indicate they will not be replaced

Different weight boats have different davits. When I was there davit arms were numbered.

Sad to say that just looks like a pile of scrap on a one-way ticket.

Thanks very much, Louis, for sharing these photos of our QE2's boats and davits.  It is sad to see all of her parts here tossed into a pile next to her "boatlings".

Great pics, thanks Davina.

It is certainly upsetting seeing the davits and boats dumped like this, but its not as upsetting as seeing that they'd been cut off the ship in the first place.  The first really profound mistake that has been made,  in my humble opinion.
