Quite what these new audiences are is anyones guess
And if the new softs drinks onboard suddenly become Pepsi themed.. ;)

Does saying a person has become "redundant" make it less painful than to say "you're fired" ?   :(

i would think it might depend on which side your viewing it from.

As someone who has worked in this area, there is a big difference. Being made redundant means "Your job has disappeared" (i.e. no one else will be given this job), while being fired means "There is something wrong with you or the way you have carried out your job, and we need someone better to take over from you". There is stigma attached to being fired, while being made redundant is sad, but without any fault or stigma.

Thanks, Isabelle, for your very good explanation.  However, the redundant person has no job at that point...

To me the difference is redundancy means being compensated,  being fired means no compensation and I beg to differ that the job disappears in   either case the position is  rename allowing them to employ someone  at a lower wage, that's what happened to me when I was released
Due to Re-organisation,  the employee that filled the renamed position was paid much less than I was to do the same job, it seems the bean counters thought  I was being paid to much
