  • Getting there was all the fun...
A French project called "The Bridge 2017" will apparently feature Queen Mary 2 racing with giant multihulls on the Atlantic between Saint Nazaire (where she was built) and New York in June-July 2017, celebrating American military landings in France during the First World War in 1917, as well as jazz music and basketball...

My money would be on the multihulls getting across quicker...

Another  option would be to reactivate a certain ship mored in Philadelphia USA and finally open up her engines fully. Rotfl.

I suppose the multihull to beat will probably be from Incat (I'll be backing the little Aussie Battler)

My money would still be on the multihulls.

I'd say the QM2 could probably do the crossing in four days, and perhaps a little under four.

I refer the honorable member to this earlier post upon that subject:

With that in mind, I would still put my money on the multihulls, even if they use one of the earlier series of Incats that couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

Participation of Queen Mary 2 to The Bridge race has been confirmed yesterday.

On 25 June 2017 she will sail from St-Nazaire, France, to New York. It will be her first return to her birthplace since she was built.

Boiler & condenser corrosion, plus seized turbines, will ensure the SSUS will never steam on her original power plant again.

Hi Roy,

Hope all is well with you up there.

On YooTuube is a comprehensive video walkthrough of the machinery spaces, done a few years back - unfortunately I don't have  the link, but a search on youtube should turn it up.
If they had taken the machinery out I think she would have hogged like the Queen Mary by now.

Cheers

If a ship has her machinery out she is classified as a building.
