QM2 175 year celebrations- New York light show
« on: Jul 25, 2015, 08:47 AM »
Hi Rob - and Everyone

We saw this being set up on board (fascinating,it was!) and although the photos taken ship side didn't show the lights (we were warned that they wouldn't!)
it looks as if the Daily Mail was able to watch from Battery Park together with many passengers who had disembarked in NYC!

QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

I'm still on holiday or I'd do it but I think we need a separate topic for the light show, as I'll also be uploading a video taken on board (The effect of the spotlights playing on the Manhattan skyline, including the freedom tower, was captivating). Cunard curiously have a YouTube video about the setup, but no actual video of it, even though there was a helicopter doing laps of the ship throughout

I can't explain how thrilling the Light Show was from on board that night, the videos don't truly do it justice unless maybe you view them full screen on a TV.  If you run them both at once, with mine about 30 seconds ahead of the official one, you can see what it looked like from ashore and on board.

Here's the official video -
and here's the one I shot -
I'll never forget it.

Thank you so much Rob for posting both your professional and Cunard's stunning videos. It is great to see both on board and harbour side perspectives of what looked like an absolutely amazing light show. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up just watching the video. I hope you had a great time on Queen Mary 2 and could see passed the repairs of an eleven year old Queen that needs an MOT. Since the loss of QE2, she has become the only Cunard ship I will sail on. Simply because she is so different to QE2 but still has a connection to her. QV and QE I found were beautiful ships, just too many people crammed in.
