Great News!!!! - Liverpool Port Gets the Go Ahead!!
« on: Feb 03, 2012, 08:32 PM »
Hurrah!! Liverpool has been granted the £9million to revamp Pier Head and make it a turn around port!!!

The cruise terminal at Liverpool has been a great success, with many ships visiting the area over the past years, but hopefully soon cruises will be starting from Liverpool as well as visiting.  This will be a great economic boost for the North and will provide work and more money for the area.

Cannot Wait!!

This is a step in the right direction which will be welcomed by passengers from the North of the Country.  Peter Shanks stated that this will be one off events, as Southampton is there home port but good news just the same.  I will look forward to hearing more about what round trips will be from Liverpool.

Great news indeed!

The next steps now would be:

1) Making more crossings than cruises in order to serve properly both Southampton and Liverpool
2) Maintain the 7 days crossing (instead of 8 next year) or even reducing it back to 6  (as the article says, if I get it right) ;D
3) In my dreams: build a NEW ocean liner, one for the Liverpool-NY crossing and one for the Southampton-NY crossing  ;D ;D ;D

I don't think so!!

Oh that's a shame... Liverpool would be so much easier, and cheaper, for me than faraway Southampton.

Why dont they Start a crossing in Southampton, call into Liverpool and head off to New York from there.. It also allows the passengers from the Northern area to join from Liverpool and opens up the possibility of perhaps one night cruises from Southampton to Liverpool..food for thought? and the return of these fun one night party cruises  ;)

This is how the Daily Post (Mr Elson) quotes Mr Shanks, in the link posted earlier.

'Peter Shanks, Cunard Line president, said: “These will be one-off events, rather than a continuous service. We are committed to       Southampton as our main base, but Liverpool is our spiritual home.

“If Liverpool invests in its facilities and has the opportunity for turnaround, it is quite possible voyages could start in Liverpool. I think that would be very popular with our guests.”

So - 'It is quite possible', and let's hope for the best.
Couldn't there be every 'opportunity for turnarounds'?  Liverpool will know how to look after Cunard!
They just might need do a bit of dredging of old mud first... (mud, not muck, mind!)
