Fantastic... Dubai should invest in some of these...

Absolutely. They'd fit in perfectly in the Queens Room.

These trumpet style pillars at a hotel I recently stayed at reminded me of QE2. Not exactly the same design but I have to say the shape did make me think back to the Queens Room or Midships Lobby.

Today I'm going through my email inbox for the new year.  I'm doing quite well, and came across this email from a friend in May 2019.

he writes...

"Hi. I’m on the Nieuw Statendam a pinnacle class ship that the expected new Cunarder “Queen Anne” or whatever... there are a few of these lovely staircases that perhaps only you would understand why I would get a thrill out of using."

His photo is attached.  I see his point... has anyone been on board Nieuw Statendam and enjoyed this staircase?

Yesterday we had a wee day oot, and headed through to the Firth of Forth.  It usually sunnier if you head East...

We had a lovely day exploring along the coast, and got some brekkie in South Queensferry as part of it.

Everything is identical to when QE2 used to visit, and the feeling is totally profound - I feel like if I look up, she'll be sitting there.  There was a tanker near her usual spot too, which helped the illusion when its white superstructure caught my eye.

When she used to visit, I used to go and spend hours there, alone, just watching her, and watching the people going to and from her, and wondering if I'd ever step aboard again.  I'll never visit that place without thinking of her.

Some pics attached.  Also looked like at least two of the Fred Olsen fleet are still tied up at Rosyth, which I was surprised to see.

Great reminders, Rob! Thank you for the photos.

Reminds me also that, one night a while back, I was actually on a train (Caledonia Sleeper in its previous incarnation) speeding across that bridge, to my enormous surprise and pleasure.

South Queensferry is just 9 miles from where I live and we sometimes have lunch or dinner at the Orocco Pier or just enjoy walking and enjoying the view.  Of course the view was best when the QE2 was anchored near the rail bridge.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

I stopped for a cup of coffee in a lovely hotel this afternoon and was reminded of QE2.

As I had entered through a back gate, I met quite a number of staff before reaching the lounge to which I was headed. Each of the staff members I met (whom I did not know) greeted me, and one of them escorted me so that I could not lose my way. And when I sat down in the lounge and enjoyed the lovely atmosphere, a couple of staff came in and greeted me, because admirably they remembered that I had been there for lunch with a friend recently. This kind of service is very rare, and really takes me straight back to QE2, where this level of courtesy was normal every day.

Today it was these column pillars at the Sydney Opera House. Not as stylish as QE2 but the shape reminded me of the Midships Lobby / Queens Room. The Opera House is of a similar vintage to QE2 celebrating its 50th anniversary at the moment.

That's a good one.  60s things like that make me think of QE2 all the time, more than anything else.

Remarkably all these years later people on my recent Queen Elizabeth cruise were confused as to which ship they were on - many referring to the ship as QE2!

Cummings Arts Center at Connecticut College was dedicated in early May 1969. There are a number of design components that make me think of QE2. Here is a photo of door handles which appear on the inside set of two doors leading outside.
