I will be in both Southampton & Liverpool on the dates mentioned (on board QM2 ) for the arrival into Liverpool. I think a get together in Liverpool on the 24th would be a great idea, however the city are expecting crowds of in excess of a million, so it may be a little difficult, saying that, I am meeting friends & family at the Pumphouse Pub in Albert Dock at about Noon if any forum members fancy a drink(Outside Weather Permitting)See you THERE

Just a note based on last year, the pumphouse looked nice but was absolutely heaving, mostly with stag nights. We couldn't get near it. And that was just a normal Saturday before QV arrived!

Might end up in Liverpool to dry-dock Lone Gerd about May. Be good If we managed to coincide with this weekend.

Sounds absolutely Great!
Would it need to be dry-dock? She might enjoy being near top the Mersey Bar Lightship!
It always seems there's parking space in the Albert Dock, close to Tate Liverpool.
Although there will be hundreds and thousands there - security wise, you might prefer to be a distance away from the possibly madding crowd.
We'll be there too!

Not actually dry dock but a lift out on to hard standing for new anodes and antifoul. Liverpool has a 60 ton boat lift so theoretical y they can lift our 56 tons.

Not sure if I'm reading the itinery correctly for this event but from what I gather  the three ships will only be together for a matter of hours ,if this is the case there will probably be a lot of uhappy people coming to visit Liverpool on that weekend expecting to see them together all day on the 25th .
I do hope I'm wrong on this but what I have so far  is ..

24th   QM2 arrives and berths at cruise terminal .
25th   QE    arrives
25th   Qv    arrives
25th              3 ships line up mid river to perform some manoeuvres

25th      QM2  DEPARTS  MID MORNING   ?
25th      QE      berths at cruise terminal  QV stays mid river
25th      QE    departs late evening   QV moves to Cruise terminal
26th      QV    departs

So by my reckoning  Late morning would be 11.59 am at the latest ,if QE and QV arrived @ 6am it would only be 3 together for 6 hours Max . somehow I can't see the expected million spectators being able to take advantage of seeing the 3 ships together in such a short timescale ..

somebody please tell me I have this all wrong .. :(

As I understand it, there's only room to berth 1 of them at a time in Liverpool, so its pretty amazing they're getting 3 there at once at all!  The manoeuvre in the river is going to be an amazing feat of logistics "a world first" - the biggest ship ever to visit the Mersey, along with not 1 but 2 other very large cruise ships!

Hopefully Liverpool's media outlets and the tourist people etc. will be clear about what is happening when in all their publicity material.  They'll need to be, to deal with the huge crowds.  The crowds were big enough last May when it was just QV there!

Lets hope the local press and other media  make this clear to the 'normal' public nearer the time ,I can see a lot of upset people otherwise . :)

Hi
I saw it reported that Liverpool VTS has been using a simulator to plan how to maneuver the ships safely
in the restricted waters
Will The "qe2 story" be represented during either event
I have taken the liberty of e-mailing a letter to the editors of both of the local papers showing my concern
about the future of the QE2, it will be interesting,  if any one in Southampton or Liverpool knows if they
were published

Even though I/We are really looking forward to being on-board for such a historic day, I too am a little disappointed with the timings of our arrival & departure, firstly QM2 is now, due to tidal restrictions arriving into Liverpool in the early hours (time not stated) but probably in the dark, plus I was hoping to arrange a helicopter fly over (for Photos) whilst all 3 Queens are in the River together, but can't as we sail before noon to meet QV/QE in the river, I'm led to believe.
Any information on timings would be greatly appreciated

I was going to say that too, the security will be immense I'd imagine, with everything that's not authorised being kept well clear. Cunard will have helicopters up too I'd think to get photos, and the press will want their piece too. And of course this is all happening right in the city centre!

I'm still amazed and delighted that permission was given to do this in these health and safety obsessed times. I'm sometimes called profit of doom by my friends because of where my mind takes me, but imagine if a thruster or pod goes wrong in the middle of the manoeuvre... It is a river after all...

My only fear is that this event may become a victim of it's own success ,last year we had the giants and the city was jam packed to bursting with people coming in from all angles ,if you didn't get on a train or bus at it's departure point you just didn't get there ! .

Us Scousers will go to the opening of a paper bag  !   :) , with the expected influx of visitors to the city as well coming to see what is decribed as a magnificent sight etc I just hope it all goes well over the entire weekend .

Rob , shame it looks like you won't be able to make it , hope plans  change  ;) .

@ Roy Warrender .  Not seen anything in the Liverpool  evening Echo but missed a couple last week , will keep an eye out  :).

People are stating timings for arrival and departures which are incorrect and haven't been published.

Only two helicopters are allowed to fly at any one time together over the Mersey and we have bagged those slots for filming and photographic purposes.

If the residents of the tower block at the end of the Quay had any sense  they would be renting out spaces from the top floor, l couldnt help but think on QE2s last visit to Liverpool they must have had the best free view!

and did anyone else notice the 3 chimney stacks in the Cunard colours..?

So.... if it's a 'Scouse-Led' event - please could we Scousers put our heads (or rather, what's in them) together to try and work out:
Where The Best Advantage Point will be? That is - for those of us who are celebrating Cunard's Greatest Hits in our own special way!
For some of us, spending time on board earlier in the year - and might  possibly be Anniversaried-Out before reaching the Pool on 24th May, so that we'll still be in the picture, mightn't we need to start thinking in terms of access to tall buildings with views down river?
It is Bank Holiday weekend - and please correct me if I've got it wrong - is the Three Ships 'thing' in the Mersey on the Monday 25th?
It would be great to know where you guys think might be the best place to be....?   :)

Anglican Cathedral tower tour , not sure if there's a time limit on tickets though ,
Museum of Liverpool life,  observation window ?  , doubt  that would be available though ,I would imagine reserved for Vip's
Everton Park  Highest point in Liverpool  but will need good binocluars .

There is always the Wirral side  ;D  with great views of the three Graces , I will wait till plans are public knowledge before I think more about where to be .

Hi Paul - Don't believe we've met - yet!
'Across the Mersey' sounds good - only problem is, it could feel a bit out of touch, over there...
Maybe we should try catching a boat...do you by any chance have any maritime links with Mersey Ferries - or better still, could we take a tug??

Michael - are you on good terms with the Liverpool equivalent of So'ton's Svitzer Sisters?
Just wondering if we need to book a few tickets and take a picnic! Btw - are you able to join us?

And - thank you too, for the info!
So - If the Cathedral and the Museum aren't 'vacant' - might the Echo be on a more 'egalitarian' track?
http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/three-queens-liverpool-2015-liverpool-8645573

PS -  The possibility of watching those great ships turning into the River like QV did last year is becoming more irresistible by the minute (and QV did look so like QE2 at a distance), might there just be room in one of the NW facing walls of the waterfront buildings? Heading off to investigate the Liver Bldgs - now prefixed with Royal, wonder why?!

Rosie .no I don't think we've met ,unless we spoke on board QE2 sometime ,I'll talk to anybody  :D  .

I'm waiting to see what manouevres are planned before deciding anything , if the 3 ships were to face away from the ' graces ' the opportunity for some great pictures would be on t'other side of the river

Just spoke to a friend who has properties all over the city ,he may just know somebody so will have to wait and see on that one .

T Dickson ,   That would have been me then    ;)
My fear about the timings are ,a lot of people I've mentioned this to are under the impression that this is a three day event ,main day being 25th and all day for the 3 ships ,wrong I know but folks with just a passing interest  are not going to look too deep into the details and maybe turn up too late .Hopefully as Micheal says when the details are released there will be enough promotion to avoid people being dissapointed and taking away a poor image of this great city.

Thank you! Although getting over the river vvv early without a car might be a tad tricky, how about ground level on the riverside of the docks down river from the Liver birds?

Have rung around today - The Royal Liver Buildings wouldn't even countenance opening up to anyone, even on a Bank Holiday ;) , Tate Liverpool has windows over the river and are expecting 'thousands', and various hotels seemed uncharacteristically unhelpful..

Can we maybe start a roll-call for who will be there, and what days?  Then say whether you're interested in a get-together of some kind.

I think it will not be easy, though.  I can't organise it because I don't think I'll be there, however it would need careful thought given the enormous crowds that will be there.

This seems to be doing the rounds...

9 am Sunday morning QM2 docks in liner berth
Fireworks and projections that night
Monday 11am, QM2 moves off to new brighton
Monday am QE and QV meet at Anglesea
12 noon Monday QE and QV arrive, QM2 tucks in behind.
Line of three ships from Echo arena to Cunard Building
All three to then perform 180 degree turn in water at 13.30
QM2 leaves 2.30
QE moves into liner berth, QV holds in centre of river and tenders
QE leaves at 10.30pm with projections onto Cunard building
QV to liner berth
QV leaves Tuesday 5pm.

Previous post by Cunardqueen is pretty accurate from what I have been told, with the exception, QM2 is arriving at the cruise terminal @ approx 3.30am.

As for a roll call (Good Idea)
We will be in or around Albert Dock most of the day & evening Sun 24th May probably meeting friends & family and of course any FORUM members who wish to make themselves known at the pumphouse (Any time would suit us for a meet)
As for the following day NO QM2 passengers are to be allowed OFF the ship on the Bank Holiday Monday morning before she goes to meet her "little sisters" as she sails about 10.30 am apparently

Probably be heaving with people but Liverpool Yacht Club could be a plan,  @ 1500 Mtrs walk along the waterfront .be a good place to meet after the main event .
