Trip to Glasgow University Archive

Hi everyone!

I will be making a 'secondary sea trial' to John Brown archives in Glasgow University sometime this week.

Does anyone need any look ups done? You will be able to find a catalogue of archived documents on the Glasgow University Archive website.  Please look at this and try and find accession numbers for anything you may need and either PM me or post below to notify me of these and I will do my best to look them out for you and try and get any information I can.

Lynsey,  If you come across any good general arrangement plans for any or all decks, let me know.  My retirement goal (wish) is to build two models - 1 full hull exterior and the other a cutaway of the orignail configuration.  Don't go out of your way but if you do stumble across something let me know.

thanks for the offer!

I believe that the archive does hold the blueprints and architects drawings.  I will check when I am in.  I don't know what their policy is on copying these at the moment.  However, I do believe that Glasgow Uni do actually allow inter-archive loans.  I haven't checked where you are from, so if Glasgow is inaccessible they may be able to send it to a closer archive to you.  Obviously, their main priority is keeping the integrity of the object and I am annoyed to say that the way they store a lot of the John Brown's stuff is not that sympathetic.  A lot of stuff bunged into dogeared paper wallets.  No harm in asking, so I will see what I can do for you.

Hey Lynsey

Bob raises a very vaild point, I too would be grateful if you could find out if they have the ships plans, and what the policy on copying is, I believe in the past they have not been available for general release, but have not looked into it since the ship was withdrawn from service.

I am especially interest in the Hull Lines Plan, and associated Offset Table, if plans are available from that archive, then details of who to contact etc would be very helpful!

Many thanks, all the best with the visit for your own purposes too!  8)

Lynsey, I'm in San Diego, CA.  It would be a long shot for GU to have soemone close by with a suitable archive.  Still curious nonetheless...

Hi everyone,

I spent a whole day in Glasgow University Archive, which has now been re-opened after refurbishment.  I spent a good 8 hours going through the QE2 documents.  A lot of interesting stuff.

In regards, to past queries in relation to copies, the university can copy documents relating to the QE2.  I am not sure about plans as of yet.  I know they offer a 'Lusitania' plan pack.  I will ask when I am in again tomorrow afternoon:
