We arrived in Alexandria and prepared for a long trip to Cairo and Giza. The city was a bit of a disappointment, it was a bit messy to say the least and it was very sad to see so much litter blowing about in area of the Pyramids. Equally disappointing was the hoards of Egyptian 'gentlemen' grabbing tourists and sitting them on their camels. It felt a rather unsafe place. However, I was pleased to see the Pyramids and The Sphinx close up. Then off into the city, a shop for souvenirs and then lunch on the Nile. Belly dancer over lunch, not bad, but again rather sad to see so much poverty on the banks of the river.

Returned to the ship arriving after six, and the light was fading. I recall them hurrying us on board as the ship was preparing to depart. Quite sad really, as this was the last port QE2 would ever depart. Not much was made of this, but to me this was a significant historic moment. Along deck four I watched as the last great starboard aft door was closed and sealed tight. indeed I recall capturing the moment on video.

Captain McNaught welcomed everyone back on board and noted our route towards The Suez Canal.

Thanks, Cunarder Man, for sharing the day with us.  Yes, sad to note that Alexandria was the last port from which our QE2 would depart.  Do you have the video you took ?

These days in the Red Sea , which I followed with increasing trepidation, made me realise what a huge expanse of water it is...

The final day at sea was something special. We arranged a final Cabin Cavalcade and after visiting the cabins, we met Captain Ian & Mrs McNaught who warmly invited us to their cabin. We had a great few moments having a look about and seeing the treasures which were on display. This was a very special moment and we will never forget the kindness shown to us on QE2's last day at sea.
