Maybe they can put this one where it's not totally hidden by a shopping mall... !

I wish both these ships were in clydebank or at least on the Clyde somewhere. Edinburgh seems to respect the Clyde's history more than the Clyde area itself does...

It is good that these vessels are going to be used, but it is a shame that the Clyde area is being stripped of its rich history or so it seems.
QE2 - the ship for all of time, a ship of timeless beauty !

Hi Folks,

Rob's visit to Britannia yesterday and my subsequent post on ex NLB tender Fingal reminded me of the photos I have attached:

(1) mv Fingal was the last ship built by the Blytheswood Shipbuilding Company, Scotstoun - she is seen here under the Stobcross Crane receiving her engines (6cyl British Polar diesels) in August 1963. (My Collection)
(2) After a long career with NLB which involved spells based at Leith and laterally Orkney she was sold on to Hong Kong interests and is shown here laid up in Falmouth Creek in 2004 having been renamed Windsor Castle - which I understand she still carries today. (photographer unknown)

What a bonny wee boat :)

The Fingal is now open!

She looks rather wonderful, but is very expensive.

Great to see, just hoping she's a success given the eye watering prices that make Cunard look cheap as far as the Britannia grade cabins go!
First travelled on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last stepped foot and travelled on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008 - we had the better view!

Have a look at the room designs :-

They're not boring!  They're not blank Premier Inn style boxes!

Fingal is a Gem!
This is the ship that could work for ever.
Congratulations to all concerned
QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

It does look good! Beautiful looking ship, as many of the older, smaller ships were! Prices, however would put it beyond my reach.
Menus look very interesting and tasty.
One item that caught my eye was "Fingals own smoked salmon. smoked on board"
Brought visions of a boilersuited Engineer with a marshmallow fork in hand holding a side of salmon over an engine exhaust leak!
Well on QE2 we used to cook food on the steam pipes in the early watches! Baked tatties was a favorite!
