British Pathe - amazing archive video of QE2
« on: Jun 05, 2009, 10:59 PM »
Some of these are great. Not all have sound. The one of the launching of the Q4 is in colour.  Also view the qe2 in Southampton dry dock. Remember to check the items on the second page.  This will keep you entertained.

Oh dear :( That's another site I've had to bookmark with the intention of returning at a later date to watch everything. How do you find so much QE2 related material?

Malcolm, you will enjoy this site. Especially the launch of the q4. Good propeller views here and also in the Southampton dry dock film.
I have an unusual method of finding QE2 info and it seems to be working.

Absolutely FANTASTIC!

Had been on this site before, but not for a long time.

Check this one out - http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=73222 - lots of shots of her original interiors.

And this one - maiden voyage arrival in new york - http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=45776 - brings a lump to your throat!

Colour video shot during maiden voyage - http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=73568

Love this one - embarassing breakdown - but still upbeat and best of British - http://www.britishpathe.com/record.php?id=45619 "an absolute champoion"!

This is a particularly interesting one

The maiden voyage.  Look at just before 1 minute - a bedroom made up as a sitting room for the party - first time i've seen a room like that.

It looks like what was later classified as a P grade cabin. That light coloured fabric panel on the left, behind Tommy Parr,  would have been behind the beds.

Look at the amount of space between the tables in the Queens Room - nothing like at her retirement when as many tables as possible were squeezed in!

Rob - I have to disagree :( It's not just that clip that's interesting - they all are :)

I just watch the launch video - it was great - the only video I had seen previously was in black and white and the quality was not good!

Cunard did use some of this footage when they produced for a very short period of time a video onboard with general views shots etc and at the Captains Receptions the video crew would film the meet n greet and then if you wished to purchase a video they would insert that clip into the video. I dont recall that service being offered for very long.

Fantastic-where would we be without the superb work of British Pathe. Funny to see The Queen's loyal Unofficial England Mascot Ken Baily again waving away dockside. Used to see him all the time at Wembley.Had'nt seen him since he played prop at Twickenham with Erica Roe. There was even a Subbuteo figure of him

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/obituary-ken-baily-1467167.html

http://www.britmovie.co.uk/forums/can-you-name-film/466-ken-baily-england-mascot.html--this thread talks about footage of him running the 'QE2 decks in the 1940s'-something adrift here but would be interesting to know more
