I must admit I had never heard of this one until ten seconds ago, but one look at the following tells me it will be of great interest on here...

Last time I saw her, probably 20 years ago at Ellesmere Port, she was very derelict. Good to see that there are people who have the enthusiasm to save her. Thanks for posting Peter.

Thought I would resurrect this thread!!

I was working on an Animal Medicine plant at Speke, Merseyside Monday - Wednesday this week and was staying in a nice little town nearby called Frodsham.

Enroute from the site to the hotel you cross the River Weaver via the Sutton Swing Bridge and there was the Daniel Adamson berthed!

The sun was out so I took to opportunity to stop and take some photos. She looks amazing and is such a credit to the drive and determination of all who were involved in first saving her from certain scrapping through a knock back from the Heritage Lottery Fund to finally having her fully restored to operational condition.

One of the trustees - Dan Cross - is a tugman on the Mersey - when I messaged him later that night to say how good the vessel was looking he offered me a tour which unfortunately due to existing commitments I couldn't accept :(

Although the vessel was not Clydebuilt  - being built by Cammell Laird in 1903 and originally named Ralph Brocklebank - she has pumps by Drysdale, Dawson, Downie and Lamont - her reversing engine is by Brown Brothers to name but a few famous Scottish names!!!

Photos of her below - more information on her history and what she has to offer present day here:

The Danny

Shelagh and I are heading down to Liverpool later this year and I can guarantee one port of call!!! :)

Great she's still going strong! I remember reading about her in Ships Monthly years ago now. Great photos and information as usual Gav  :)
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

Hi all, I work in Frodsham and have the pleasure of driving past the Daniel Adamson every day .She is a beautifully restored old tug and is available for hire for functions and private cruises up and down the river weaver, in the summer months she does gin cruises ( will have to try one of those !) .

That looks fabulous! I'd love to do that.
