Photo of the month competition - instructions on how to vote for your favourite photo

Thank-you to everyone who submitted photos for the April Photo Competition "Afternoon Tea"  and thank-you to  BobC, the joint winner of the January competition for choosing this interesting theme.

Each member has 3 votes (but please do not vote for your own photo). Voting is open to all members regardless of whether or not you submitted a photo.  Please choose up to three photos you want to vote for, note photo details, then tick the relevant boxes on the voting poll.

To make it easier for you we have posted the photos below but you can also view the photos submitted by members in the Gallery.   You will probably get a better view of the photos in the Gallery where you can see them all at once, in thumbnail form and you can then click on the pictures shown, and click again, to see them in large size.

Click on the Gallery button from the forum or click on this link:
https://www.theqe2story.com/forum/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=113

You will not see the results until after the voting has closed on 1 June 2014 giving other time zones the chance to catch up with the voting deadline.

The prize for the winner will be Chris Frame's new soft cover Queen Victoria book

Calling all voters!

No, I am not writing about the European Parliament elections over the next few days (although I would implore everyone with a vote to use it and to vote in reasonable politicians -- please!!   :-*) ...

No, in this instance, we need voters for the poll above.

Only 8 votes so far -- out of so many members here, all of whom love the QE2. Do just one thing every month -- have a look at the photos and tick three boxes for her... please...  :-*

Can a nice unmissable link to the vote be pinned on to the home page?

Online Lynda Bradford

Thanks Kyle it is always good to hear suggestions.

We have a rolling newsfeed at the top the index page for voting submitting photos and the latest newsletter.  If anyone cannot see this check to see if you see a "Hello (your name) if not you need to click on the right hand corner.  Where you see "News" there is also a little plus or minus sign at the right hand side of this block.  If you cannot see a rolling newsfeed click on the + button.

Following on from Kyle's suggestion we will think if there is any way of making this stand out more if there is a system option.

Do you think we should also add something on the front page?

Any suggestions to making the voting for the competition more prominent are welcome  :)

I've just voted.  A delightful trip down memory lane!

My favourite afternoon teas, were just after boarding, when you could head straight up to the Queens Room and immerse yourself in QE2 relaxation, while others were still finding their way around or unpacking.

Yes, I used to love that too. Embarkation Day Afternoon Tea for us was a "must" and always a special occasion. I remember my very first one, when I was even allowed a visitor (who had driven us to Southampton and enjoyed his couple of hours on board with us), and another occasion when I disembarked and my sister Pia embarked, and the two of us were able to join our Mum for afternoon tea until I had to leave and waved them off. Happy memories...

Thank you for the votes, by the way! We do still need some more though... enjoy the pictures as you decide :) .

Have cast my votes even though we photographers never had the opportunity to join in. We did get afternoon tea though when we were at sea and our photo shop was open.

Opposite our little photo kiosk on upper deck, port side, between double room and casino, there was a galley where teas and cakes were laid up ready to be served. It was run by two Maltese men one of whom was called Joe, they would bring us tea and cakes and generally look after us. Naturally money changed hands in return for this hospitality but it was well worth it.
Don't just be part of her past, be part of her history!

Thank you, Alan, for sharing your memories with us.  It sounds wonderful !

I second that. It's a shame the photographers didn't have the oppourtunity to join in Alan.
"The QE2 is one of the last great transatlantic liners, and arguably the most famous liner in the world"

"QE2 and Concorde, a partnership that lasted almost 30 years... two stunning pieces of engineering, never to be forgotten!"

Looking at these photographs, it is so interesting to see the various styles of crockery there. For instance "Sun Deck Afternoon Tea" and "Afternoon Tea al fresco" have a very superior looking Cunard design, "Final Voyage Afternoon Tea" a very plain looking cup (had the normal ones all been stolen already?), while "Ready for Tea" and "The Scene is Set" have the usual Lido crockery that I remember best.

I wonder is this a question of time (different tea cups used in different years) or class (different tea cups in the Queen's Room, the Lido and the Queen's Grill Lounge)?

By the way, there are still a few hours left for your vote, if not already done :) .
