What a fantastic bit of maritime history despite the ship's sad end. Hope that does not apply to her most illustrious successor . Surely our own Scottish benefactors could be persuaded to sponser, or fund completely, the QE2's return to the country of her birth? What a coup that would be! I have travelled on QE2 many times and still miss the ceiling lights in the Queen's room and the beautiful panelling in the Caronia Restaurant.

  • Beautiful, elegant QE2 - forever Queen of the Seas
Thank you, Rosie, for posting this video of Queen Elizabeth.  It really is absolutely superb.  It is amazing to see the masses of people at her launch and all of the original footage of her interiors and of her Captain (is it Captain Bisset - don't know if he was Commodore at that itme ?) and officers.  There are wonderful views of Queen Elizabeth and the young Elizabeth.  Lizzie was a lovely ship with a very attractive profile.
QE2 - the ship for all of time, a ship of timeless beauty !

She launched herself ??     2m 11 s in  she's on her way down the slips before being named,  wonder if there was a breakdown between the slipway  gang & launch platform .

Also she's referred as QE at 3m 50 , 5m 15, plus other times in the vid,     QE2 sounds right,  personally I don't think QE does .

She was well away!
That was indeed a superb movie.

Two very recognisable landmarks on the Clyde. The first was Dumbarton Rock on the way down from Clydebank and the second was her speed trials off Arran where at 10:33 you can see the Sleeping Warrior. (Ask if you are not local and have no idea what I'm talking about  ;))
