Quote from: Richard Theriault
Hello Robert:

My name is Richard Theriault.  I live in Massachusetts, USA.  We exchanged emails several times during the past years when the QE2 was Cunard's Flagship.  I always considered you as knowing more about the QE2 then any other human on our planet Earth.

I have an extensive collection including 33 Original 1968-1969 QE2 Blueprints from the old John Brown Shipyard and several documents such as QE2  which are almost impossible to find.

I think you probably know more QE2 collectors than anyone alive.

If you would please take the time to review the photos and document lists attached to this email and after doing so if you know of any UK QE2 Collectors who would be interested in purchasing my collection would you please give them my contact email address.

I want you to know that the sale price is not my priority---A lot of my collection is one of a kind stuff which cannot be replaced---I would prefer it to go to a museum such as the Scottish Maritime Museum or the Museum in Southampton but they do not purchase things and I have a great deal of money invested in what I have.

I would give either of the 2 museums a discount price as I believe this collection should be available to future generations to appreciate just what the QE2 was in her flagship days.

Working together perhaps we can place this collection in the proper place for future generations to see and at least some of my monetary needs would be satisfied.

Thank you for whatever help you will provide me with.

Richard Theriault

They do look very interesting, it must be fantastic to have something like that.

Fantastic! What a treasure.

Too bad any hope of seeing a museum section on board a well preserved and looked-after QE2 is now almost gone.

This would have been the place.

Wouldn't this be worthwhile forwarding to Golin/Harris International Limited or whoever as part of QE2's refurb?

Speaking of Golin/Harris, has anyone heard anything from them recently ?

Where are the John Brown Archives ?  Is it University of Glasgow ?

If there was going to be a refurb....  there are lots of accurate blueprints and plans on board QE2 which were up to date as per her arrival date, and I'd imagine these would be more useful and will have been shared with them.

I'm absolutely certain they are.  However I don't think they were unique.  Copies of these were made at the time.  However they're very rare, especially in this condition, and all as a set.

It would be interesting to know how big the plans are. The GA  sets l have are 5ft x 3ft and superb though they are, you do need space to take them out, unfold them and then when you start looking..there is no stopping.
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!

Do we know what happened to these drawings and docs? Did the owner ever get them into a museum etc

Most of these drawings seem to have enough folds and/or bulk to indicate they are AO sized, ie., approx. 31.5" x 52" (800 mm x 1320 mm).
Many have been folded for a long time (the more brownish items), while the copies with the blue tint/fold lines are usually gestetner copies printed from clean print copies. This latter process highlights the fold lines that become quite pronounced when the drawing is opened out.

Some of these drawings are of overlength size - they are rolled up, and show no evidence of having ever been folded.

The original set of drawing tracings found on most ships is normally a rolled up set of 'tracings', stored in tubes, from which copies can be taken if one has AO printing facilities. The first set of originals are usually held by the drawing office at the builder's yard. Then more sets are held by the Classification Society, then even more partial sets will often be held by the various contractors involved in the original build, or, later in a ship's life, where drawings (or copies) have been issued for modifications/repairs to be planned ahead of work commencement.

The only 'true' set of original drawings are those produced by the builder's yard draughtsmen. All others are 'prints' of those originals.

I just saw these posted on Craigslist for $7500. The 2012 date stamps are the same.
