If this excellent idea is progressed there is one point that would need to be addressed and that is the quality of the photo or photos chosen. However pretty the subject matter and however well composed the shot is, for the photo to work well as a jigsaw it must:

1) Be of a reasonable resolution so that it can be enlarged and printed but still have a crisp clarity of image.

2) The background around the image must be varied enough to allow for a degree of ease in putting the jigsaw together. The most difficult parts of many jigsaws are those pieces that must be placed between the central area and the edges, so an exterior shot of the ship with a brilliant, blue, cloudless sky and an even, azure, flat calm sea, however stunning, may make the jigsaw nigh on impossible to complete.

Agreed! Hear hear.

I'll get back to you about the committee invite - got a lot on here at the moment; roof replacement is imminent...!!

Heard back from my jigsaw contact; it seems they're not actually a manufacturer as such - they subcontract everything so are basically a middleman using their own brand name, so we would be better off talking to the various actual manufacturers.

Hi Peter - Thank you very much for your post and good luck on the roof replacement.  That is a huge job !  I don't see a rush on our jigsaw unless others here do, so we could all take our time in the planning.  Thank you for the information about your jigsaw contact.  Yes, it does seem as if it would be better to go directly to the manufacturer.  June

Why rush? We have plenty of time to sort the jigsaws out. :)

Yes, taking time to sort things out would be beneficial.

It will be better if we take our time rather than rush. That way we have more time to plan and research good quality jigsaws. :)

Perhaps people could vote for all the winning photos of competitions?

Although they would have to be pictures that aren't impossible to do as a jigsaw (e.g. No clear blue sky and clear sea)

Clear blue sky is not impossible in a jigsaw; no harder to do than the detail parts in fact...

Yes, Peter, that is true especially if the jigsaw pieces are slightly different shapes.

Well as long as people enjoy the jigsaws, that doesn't matter. :)

I think I will have a QE2 jigsaw puzzle made up and then circulate it along with the other two that are now circulating among members.

I was thinking perhaps choosing one of the photos in the 2014 calendar, but I would like input from The Forum members on which photo to choose.

Should we set up a poll to choose a picture for the jigsaw ?

Thanks, June   :)

June,

Once you have chosen the image you would like to use I would be happy to do any necessary editing and image preparation to make it ready for printing.

I have originals of all the 2014 calendar images on my storage system. As long as the photographer/s who own the copyright are happy for their image to be used I can do the editing.
