My suggestion....Somebody volunteer to pay the x number of pounds, to get a special jigsaw made then put it into the jigsaw pass around.

Brilliant, Rod! Maybe even several of us could volunteer to get a different one made each, and we would have a good stock to pass around. The postage will still be a fair bit lower than paying for a new jigsaw.

Sounds like a good solution to me.

In addition to the fun of circulating jigsaws using forum photos I am also interested in the concept that you can order and personalise jigsaws for presents etc.  I had never thought of this before and I am now thinking would be a great idea for Christmas present for my sister.  Knowing how Isabelle and her family love the Christmas jigsaw challenge I can see a jigsaw on the Christmas present list for her also.   :)

Guys and Gals....If I could make a small suggestion here????

COOL IT!!!!
The Managers of this forum have enough to do, when they all have full time jobs, I assume, THEN they run the forum that we love!
My suggestion....Somebody volunteer to pay the x number of pounds, to get a special jigsaw made then put it into the jigsaw pass around.
If somebody likes it enough to want one...let them order it!
You are correct Rod.

During my youth my father was national regalia officer for 41 Club.
The result was I had a bedroom full of stock and he spent the equivalent of about a working day a week processing orders, ordering stock etc all in his spare time.

Then there is the financial side to consider. As a quasi charitable organisation my dad was not over troubled by the Tax Man. Then who provides the working capital etc?
As this site is not overburdened with advertising I think we can take it as read that this is Rob's hobby and he is not going to chuck his career and try to make a living out of it.

Keep it simple must be the way to go.

Thanks for your understanding!

When I did the DVD, I wasn't working, had lots of time free, and it largely paid for the trip to Dubai.  Lynda did the first calendar 'the old way' but it involved fairly large sums of money, and an absolutely huge amount of time and effort.

In the little time I have free, I make sure the forum is up to date and backed up, and I process the few badge orders we get.  That's really all the time I have most of the time!

Our shop page (https://www.theqe2story.com/QE2Shop.php) brings some more money into the PayPal although the calendar made no profit, and the badges make a very little profit.

I have a PayPal account, in the website's name, which donations go into, which I use to pay for the site hosting etc but its not a club, so there's no bank account, treasurer etc etc. and its not a charity.  I did look into it but its all really complicated.  Suggestions would be welcomed, however, about how else to work it!  Last time I checked the PayPal account has around £400 in it.  This gives me reassurance that the site will be around for many, many years to come, and if necessary I can even pay for some technical help with it.

Isabelle started off the first Jigsaw forum fun by simply giving her lovely jigsaw to a member to have a go of.  This act of generosity has paid off with all your enthusiasm for doing your own, which I love :)

I set it up originally, but it has to be your forum !

Full of contradictions I know, but that's me.

PS: Off work today or the above would be a one-liner as usual!

I'd point out that even by going down the course of individual orders a co-ordinated approach could well result in a bulk discount...  I'm waiting to hear back...

I do know that the MD of the company in question does take a direct personal interest in chosing which pictures they use, so there is a possibility that if one or more of the pictures on this forum grabs his attention they may well want to talk to the member whose picture(s) are involved about adding it / them to their general range - meaning there would no up front costs or hassle for anyone here, and instead the possibility of royalties... plus a jigsaw or two available for us all to buy openly in the shops at normal retail prices.

Just keep your fingers crossed...

Thank you to all for your input and information both about the jigsaw idea and how The Forum and The Shop work.  And yes, there is always the business and tax end when selling things direct.  It would be great to have individuals make up jigsaw(s) and circulate them.  I would step up to have a jigsaw made.  Also, Peter has an excellent idea about bulk discounts but also in interesting the company in perhaps a new series of QE2 jigsaws which the company would make and sell themselves.  Let's continue the discussion on how to proceed.  I don't think any of us intended that Rob and admins would take on the work themselves.  June  :)

That is correct; the only involvement they would need, really, is to ensure that we aren't duplicating effort - imagine what it would look like for the forum if three or four people independently approached the same outlets with the same requests...

I've been busy recently so sorry for the late reply but I think that Peter's idea is great - letting members have them made.

Hi Peter - Thanks for your reply.  Should we ask, perhaps, who is interested in having a jigsaw made up and with what pictures, and then contact the company on cost ?  Should we have an "on line committee" so we do not duplicate efforts as you say ?  Thanks,  June   :)

Thank you for your posts.  Who would like to be on the "on-line jigsaw committee" ?    :)

If this excellent idea is progressed there is one point that would need to be addressed and that is the quality of the photo or photos chosen. However pretty the subject matter and however well composed the shot is, for the photo to work well as a jigsaw it must:

1) Be of a reasonable resolution so that it can be enlarged and printed but still have a crisp clarity of image.

2) The background around the image must be varied enough to allow for a degree of ease in putting the jigsaw together. The most difficult parts of many jigsaws are those pieces that must be placed between the central area and the edges, so an exterior shot of the ship with a brilliant, blue, cloudless sky and an even, azure, flat calm sea, however stunning, may make the jigsaw nigh on impossible to complete.
