I thought of QE2 & Waverley - the only photos I have of them both are of pre-rebuild Waverley and have a bit too much sky etc as Alan was alluding to. Also the weather we had in 2008 when she came back to us for the final time was amazing which I thought would be captured nicely in a jigsaw.

I had favoured pic 2 myself. I'll wait until the end of the week and move it on then!

The one with loads of wee boats is good but I'd need to crop some of the sky out.

Thanks for getting permission to use these stunning photos for using to make  jigsaw number 5.

Photo number one is s stunning photo and would be good for the jigsaw but as already has been mentioned there is a lot of sky. 
Photo number two gives detail of the boats sailing in with the ship that would be good for the jigsaw, but just as number one has a lot of sky, this photo has a lot of sea between the land and the ship would may equally be difficult for a jigsaw.
Photo number three, I love the atmosphere that this photo creates and there is a lot of detail for a jigsaw.  But it has the same problem as photo number one, in that there is too much sky. 

If the sky in photo number three could be cropped then this would be my favourite and photo number one my second choice, but the sky would need to be cropped. 

Good suggestion of photo of QE2 and Waverley if the right photo could be found

I will experiment with 3 to see if I can omit some of the sky but still get it into a jigsaw frame.

Just as a wee aside - the Calmac ferry Saturn shown in Picture 2 was built on the Clyde in 1977.

She has been laid up since 2011 and is now for sale. The chances are she'll go for scrap so this pic represents her at her very best for QE2!

Thanks for the information about Saturn.  That is so sad that she may go to the breakers.

Picture 2 sounds like the one from the photographic and historic point of view.

I could perhaps add so inlay photos  along the top to break it up a bit? I have others photos of that day?

Believe me, that sky would not represent a problem for puzzle assembly... 

The idea of having more images to assemble for the price of one does, I agree, sound tempting...

Hello everyone and thanks for your input - I think the choice is No 2.

I had mentioned that I could put in some inlay photos to break up some of the similar coloured areas at the top of the photo.
The attached photo gives an idea of what I am meaning - this was a puzzle I had made for Shelagh as part of her Xmas pressie - the main pic is of our 3 legged moggy Laphroaig with 8 additional smaller inlays of him and our other two cats Caol Ila and Brora.

The layout of this one was a standard template offered by the supplier and they do offer one with photos along the top but I was going to add them to the photo myself as there is more control over the spacing etc.

So bear with me and we'll see how it comes out - if it becomes a "guddle" then we can revert to the standard photo 2 and proceed!

Finally - do we want a 1000, 1500 or 2000 piece?

I personally would be in favour of 1000 -- that is a size suitable for our table, and also (hopefully) achievable within a limited time span.

The box seems to show the shape of each individual piece -- that could be a help when one is really stuck, but is probably best kept out of sight otherwise!

Good point Isabelle - I will keep it to 1000. That shot is of the completed puzzle btw - the box will only show the picture!

Interesting concept to have the inlay of photos which would make this jigsaw just a bit different from the rest and interesting to make up.

ps. Gav As a cat lover, I loved your jigsaw of your cats -named after whisky distilleries, if I am not mistaken.
