Those are invaluable, Andy! At least for me... it is a period from which I have seen very few pictures indeed...

And they answer one of those lingering questions... whether the theatre was completely unchanged since the beginning? The seats are so different in these photos -- so they must have been changed at least once in the lifetime of QE2!

Thank you for a great find  :)

Nice one Andy2

Lots of 'compare & contrast' with the later version I came to know and love  :'(
I have to say I much prefer the older version of the Grand Lounge with it's sweeping staircase - it was a public area that I felt just didn't 'work' effectively as a show lounge in later years and subsequently never really spent that much there.
It was not aesthetically pleasing to me and upset my delicate sensitivity!

Have also realised I never ever poked my head insided the Kiddies Club Room - but think that is for other reasons instead!

I think I've posted a comment and a link to the forum on the comments part - well, I tried but it hasn't appeared yet  ???
Will check back on it later I think.

Fascinating photos
Not sure I could have relaxed in the Liquorice allsorts Theatre Chairs though

Nice touch that the 12 year old got the tour after writing to the Cunard Chief.

Excellent photos - thanks for posting Kev.  Am so ignorant didn't even know there was a Columbia Restaurant - which restaurant was this?  Very poignant to end with webcam.

Hi Gill
They are great aren't they-got Andy to thank for these. The Columbia was one of the original restaurants De-Luxe on QD?Think it became Caronia with some square footage mods etc in the 94 refit but someone else may be able to confirm.

Great find Andy!  Amazing to see how original she was right up to her big refit in 86/7.  I hadn't realised the midships lobby was intact so late on.

The magradome looks exactly as I recall it - with those green & torquiose seats!

It was cool inside it, but not outside it...

Queens Room looks amazing - a design classic ruined forever in 1987, just before it would have started to get appreciated.  Ditto for the Grand Lounge, although in my view the 87 redesign wasn't too bad, it was the one after that that really spoiled it.

The original funnel - with its casing looking like a giant red sail (which is what it was meant to look like when white...)

Great shot Rob.  Btw Kev, do you recall mentioning in a previous thread about the picture of the young Lightbody playing the roulette wheel?  While that was taken in his Stateroom, this was obviously out on his private deck...lol!

Yes Andy and I'm sure Rob won't mind us noticing his colour co-ordinated trousers with the chair fabric-He possibly has more inside knowledge and connections with Cunard and it's suppliers than we could ever have imagined! Sorry Rob!

I've just been looking through some of the QE2 photos on Liners List. There are some lovely shots of her interiors pre 1992 refit. I've not posted them here because I don't want to risk breaking copyright (and why should Rob have to pay for the bandwidth when Yahoo can pay?) so they can be found at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LinersList/photos/album/423076056/pic/list?mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&count=20&dir=asc

Where's the picture from? If it were available in a higher resolution it might be possible to read the car registration plates for a cloe. It would at least advise on country if not location within that country.

There is an interesting blue box highlighting a mad standing next to a car at the bottom right of the picture. Identifying the reason for the box might help identify a location.

The speed stripe indicates it was taken between 1994 and 1999.  Not much help but 5 years is better than 40...

Take a look at pic number 4!

btw Rob - does this belong in the Gallery - or in a  QE2 'stock footage thread?
There are loads of Getty images etc - yet thought best to keep away from the commercial pics!

 RMSQUEENELIZABETH2

Im going to say its taken during one of her visits to Invergordon, Which for the record has always pulled out all the stops when she called there, they lay on a pipe band or two!! and turn the town into a carnival atmosphere and have always ensured QE2 had a stupendous welcome there.
What is annoying is the port officials from South Queensferry and Belfast were not invited, they could have taken a pad and pen and made notes about how it really should be done. (The joke onboard QE2 during her round UK was that that the two ports couldnt do enough, so they didnt bother >:()
One of the few deep water ports that QE2 can berth along side.Inverness is only 1/2 an hour away the Loch Ness monster a further 15 mins
Thanks to a friend onboard l was allowed a visit onboard for the day. This was during my gap years when l didnt cruise and still kick myself for this (the ex had other ideas) and staying to watch QE2 set sail was one of the very few times l did this and just confirmed there is nothing worse than seeing her set sail and not being onboard
When l can find what lm looking for will try and post a few things on here
Cheers
(if of course lm wrong,sorry)
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!

I just stumbled on this - type in QE2 in the search box to enjoy or surf around the site; you won't be disappointed  You'll spend hours looking thorugh QE2 photos of her exterior, port calls, passenger and crew spaces as well as other ship cruise photos.

http://emmerdale.org/linerlovers/index.html

I searched the QE2 forum to see if anyone had been posted before and didn't find anything.  I am surprised that Robert (Waverley) hasn't stumbled on this yet.

I laughed when I saw the photo of the computer room - I went there my first night onboard (I had never been on a ship before and didn't realize that you did not have to dress for dinner as you have most likely not received your luggage yet!).  It was well before the internet - but I was just wandering around trying to get my bearings - and as I was traveling alone I was a little unsure of myself - that didn't last - I was out and about for the rest of the crossing!

One of the reasons why QE2 was the best

'She took several minutes to turn...' - giving people longer to watch and wonder!
