I find this Princess design one of the most, if not the most hideous cruise ship designs out there.....and they keep building more of them!  What a sharp contrast to the classic lines of QE2.  What were the designers thinking when they worked on the bridge area?  It looks like they just ran out of time and figured a nice strut would do to support the massively ugly bridge.  The aft end is equally distrubing.  Everytime I see one of these, I have the same reaction.   :-X A co-worker recently cruised on the Princess Ruby, somewhat under duress with his wife iand in-laws, and reported the same thoughts, although he did say that once in side, it was nice.  :o

Hi Matt,

(Excuse the sales pitch) but the book is on special at Fishpond: http://www.fishpond.com.au/Books/Nonfiction/Transport/Ships_Shipbuilding/General/9780752448039/?cf=3&rid=628079638&i=2&keywords=QE2+

The cover (both front and back) are from Fremantle.

There are some other Fremantle shots here: https://www.flickr.com/search/?q=fremantle&w=40021652%40N02 although not many are from 2008.

There's a Cunard flag up the bow jackstaff!
Unless there's been a wee change of heart -
that image may have been taken well before 2010!

You're right, but there is no clue as to when it was taken.  Probably on a previous call as she's berthed the other way round isn't she?

In fact I can see the big red Cunard logo as well on the side.

The text on this web page

http://www.cruiseterminal.de/port-rashid.html

says :

Quote

Die Queen Elisabeth 2 - oder kurz QE2 - war eine der ersten Besucherinnen des neuen Cruise Terminals in Dubai.

in other words, "The Queen Elizabeth 2 -- abbreviated QE2 -- was one of the first visitors to the new Cruise Terminal in Dubai."

There is no mention on the web page when this terminal was opened -- was it in 2001? And of course it doesn't say either whether the picture was taken at the time...

Louis, do you remember the camel? Was it part of a special reception for QE2's maiden call?
