Hi Pete - Thanks very much for your post and thanks again for your pictures and commentary and also to Isabelle for doing such a wonderful job in preserving Ruby's legacy as Ruby heads off to retirement.  It does all sound way too familiar in many ways.  Good luck to you, Ruby !

Hi All -

I would like to bring forward Pete Cain's topic about his final cruise on Saga Ruby.  The commentary and the photos are wonderful.  In view of where Ruby is right now, it is fitting to review Pete's last cruise aboard this fabulous "little" ship, almost a mini QE2.

June

These photos bring back many, many happy memories of my 3 years on Vistafjord/Caronia and the many, many ports around the world that, had it not been for her, i would not have visited.

But although it's sad that she's gone, like a favourite pet, there comes a time when you have to say 'goodbye' and let them go. But the memories will live on forever.
It was during my time onboard her that i met some truly, wonderful people, from ALL nationalities.

I am truly proud to say that i served on-board Vistafjord/Caronia, when she was truly a CUNARD ship!

Great to see this thread aired again.

That is an absolutely brilliant photographic record of a great ship.
You can tell she is from the same era as QE2 - real wood everywhere and nicely fitted out accommodation.

Thanks for bringing her back to life for a brief spell.

My three children were lucky enough to travel on Vistafjord twice.

On one occasion Cunard were operating a two for one offer and as such the single cabins on 'Main' Deck were virtually unsold and my children were each allocated their own cabin.  It was wonderful as there were no arguments about who was taking too long in the bathroom, who still had their bedside light on or who couldn't get to sleep!

Later, when Vistafjord became Caronia, i was still onboard and managed to 'acquire' the glass room number plates from each of their cabins, when i went home on leave i screwed them the heir respective bedroom doors as a small reminder of their time onboard Vista. They still have them to this day, some 18/19 years later.

Welcome Pete Cain
