Hi all, will be traveling to Liverpool for the Saturday portion , if no spaces become available for the Cunard building visit, will stand near to building waiting for you all to exit, (like a dog outside a butchers shop) & play catchup for the afternoon, looking forward to it

Hi Pete.  There was a bit of confusion at our end, apologies, but the Cunard building tour has now been set as for the same people that are coming onto QV with us - because they'll have passed security clearance etc.

The plan is to go for lunch immediately after we leave the Cunard building, so we'll meet up then!

Five weeks today and we will be getting ready to go onboard Queen Victoria for our tour of the ship, having enjoyed meeting up with everyone on the Friday evening.

I have made enquiries with the Crowne Plaza Hotel regarding having a space reserved for us to meet for drinks on the Friday evening, and for lunch on the Saturday.  Still awaiting a response!  I also have a few restaurant suggestions, so I will contact them to establish whether they can accommodate a party of around 15 to 20 people and to obtain menus.  Everyone is responsible for paying for their own meals or drinks.

Some input required from you to help me plan for meals at our get together.

Can everyone who has a place for the Queen Victoria visit, plus anyone who does not have a place but will be joining us for meals/drinks let me know if they will be with us for the following so that I can book approximate number.

Friday evening at the Crowne Plaza
Saturday lunch after the Queen Victoria and Cunard Building visit (planning Crowne Plaza but will confirm)
Saturday evening meal (time and venue to be confirmed)
Do you have any specific dietary requirements?  e.g. vegetarian

Thanks and looking forward to meeting up with everyone.

Do watch in case they try to put you on the path to a "meeting" rate and likewise re the dinning plans, they might try and go along the private dinning route, reduced main menu and room hire rates etc etc.
They might try the can you pre order lark.

But a word from the wise do get the numbers correct, there is simply nothing worse than getting to a venue and tell them them oh its one more or one less. That one seat can make a big difference. The hotel is of sufficient size they can and will be able to cope with a walk in group of that size, each paying your own will lm afraid only annoy the staff no matter how much they smile.

For what its worth, if you came to where l work at you would be offered, in advance  private dinning (£100 charge) the menus would be printed with no prices you would be offered a price per head on 2,3 or 4 courses with drinks on arrival and/or wine per person. but its all reflected in the price. :-X
Where as a phone call the day before, with the request a table for 18 please makes things so much easier for all concerned...
But each paying their own.... :-\

Great to get advice from the expert -- thank you, Myles!

But each paying their own.... :-\

The important thing is that Rob is not expected to be paying for everyone. I imagine there is no problem with an overall bill that can then be divided by the number of participants, who all contribute to the total sum on the bill?

Oh lm not an expert, But l like how you think..However when you work in the industy there are times you need to tell the poor customers exactly what they want, and how they go about it... Then again others might say Tough, "you are paid to look after us"

Tell the server at the start you want seperate bills OR make a note of what you each have and put that into the cash pot, allow a little extra as they say for service  ;)

Or just divide the bill by the number eating and go with the flow...
Dealing with Food, Adults and children can be a nightmare..any two are usually ok, the fun starts when you have all three.

This is what we do with work lunches in local restaurants ( eg for leavers or new joiners ) and the system works well - as long as no one person orders something extremely expensive; in such an instance they would be expected to put more in the pot than the others.

It's certainly a very easy and fair way of settling things.

Thanks to everyone who has responded so far regarding dining arrangements.  I have noted 8 plus two undecided for meeting for drinks on the Friday evening, 11 so far have responded that they will be attending for lunch on the Saturday after the Cunard Building tour and 10 for dinner in the evening.  I have sent a PM to the people who have not responded as I hope to get a response from everyone this week, so that meals are booked.

One restaurant I contacted yesterday could not accommodate up to 20 people for dinner on the Saturday evening as they were fully booked.  I am currently looking at Gusto an Italian Restaurant and will phone them this week to see if they could accommodate us. However I need to have an indication of numbers as this restaurant requests a deposit of £5 per person to be paid at the time of booking.

I would prefer to have the choice of the full menu, but if only the group menu is an option for a party of up to 20 people then I may need to go with that.
