Thank-you to Michael for organising the tour of the Cunard building.  I am really looking forward to the Liverpool week-end.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

I'm delighted to announce that Michael Gallagher of Cunard has managed to get us a tour of the Cunard building, starting at 12.15 on the Saturday - immediately after the QV visitors come off the ship.  After that, we can head for lunch somewhere.  I'll update the introduction post to this topic to reflect the Cunard building visit.

Thanks Michael, that will be great and something more to look forward to on what already promises to be a wonderful weekend.

Remember to wear your QE2 Story badge at the gathering on 31 May.  If you do not have a badge it is easy to order one from the Forum shop.

I have to leave hotel on 31st may so not sure about the get together at albert dock. I see some are saying about going over to Belfast after. I have a week off thinking of doing the 2230 sailing on stena that night. I will be staying at ibis albert dock on 29th and 30th may.

Rob I will dig out my passport tonight and eMail over the details. I'm planning to stay two days in Liverpool, which I'm really looking forward to seeing again as I haven't seen since QE2's visit during the 150th Anniversary and before that cities' splendid renaissance of the waterfront. Rosie, any suggestions for things to do and see would be gratefully appreciated. I am then going to take the night sailing of the Stena Line on the Sunday to Belfast for a stay of two days. Other than the Titanic Quarter and Nomadic, which is why I'm going is there anything else which is a must see?

I'd recommend the Crown pub, which is absolutely splendid and owned by the National Trust :

There are also wonderful Botanic Gardens, with Turner glasshouses :

And then, there is St Anne's Cathedral, with an extraordinary modern spire :

Enjoy yourself, it is a fine city!

Thanks Isabelle, I like the sound of your three suggestions and I never throw up the chance for a visit to a pub especially one with such historical interest.

Liverpool 30th May Queen Victoria overnight stay
« Reply #72 on: Apr 11, 2014, 10:08 AM »
Hi everyone, I'm sure during Queen Victoria's overnight stay in Liverpool will be a really enjoyable one for all those going to see her and, for the forum members who will be boarding her for an afternoon visit. I hope everyone who comes to our city enjoys their time here as there is so much to see from a maritime aspect. There is also a new venue to see which is a stones throw from where Victoria will be berthed.
Just recently we went to an open day of  "30 James Street, Home of Titanic".  This building was the former headquarters of the White Star Line and is now being converted into a hotel. It is a striking building with so much history to be found by a little research. It is literally just across the road from the Cunard Building so even if members don't cross the road to visit they can still take photos opposite it and see were
J. Bruce Ismay and his directors planned Titanic. I think this connection to Cunard is really interesting and I hope other members see it that way too!

Thank you to everybody who has now forwarded their details on.

The only ones outstanding now are John "JDL" and his second person, and David Templar.  Please forward your details ASAP so I can process registration with Cunard.

Thanks,

- Rob

This sounds wonderful, but being on the other side of the pond prevents it. Hope everyone enjoys their visit!  :)
