QE2 Deluxe Boxed Set Farewell Collection
« on: Jan 30, 2009, 01:23 PM »
Did anybody else splash out and purchase the limited edition of 736 sets
Mine arrived today,Lovely presentation...
Will try and get some photos taken and see if they can be posted on here
At £350 it was an expensive purchase, and just before a 3 week QE2 voyage l did wonder if l was doing the right thing
Having poured over the box and contents, there is a wow factor, lm just not that sure if its a £350 wow factor

Its a very well put together items, not cheap But it is quality, and its bigger than you imagine. Lots of first day covers and unique postcards, details of the Dubai voyage in a log form, loads more The only complaint or comment l have is that the leather bound book has the number of  on a printed bit of paper, l would have thought that for such a book the number page should have been printed as part of the book ( am l making sense here) When you first open the box it does right away scream out quality.
Also some final voyage memorabilia the final crew show, a daily programme, couple of menus & Concert programme from the round uk voyage, a silver clad medallion, a limited edition print by Robert Lloyd
Rob has some photos, lord knows how you put them up here, otherwise l would have posted a few...
Tempted? l think you might be
 Jealous? no need to be
And yes you can sleep easy, BUT you wont.... ;)

'fraid you're right, cunardqueen, about my not sleeping... :-)

... but at least, being ashore tonight, I have a whole bottle of Singlemalt here with me, and might just get a taste of that while I ponder the apparent beauties of that quality collection spread out before you...

Wonder whether Rob has heard the "hint, hint" that has been so very delicately expressed in this thread...  ;)

perhaps that phrase is best suited to sleeping with the crew, even after all these years l never imagined a Cunardqueen to be invloved with a princess, perhaps l should dig deep into the bank of memories and share some stories :-X :-X

Thank you, Rob and Myles! That's an impressive collection (of souvenirs and of photos). Looks luxurious indeed, and I am sure there is a lot to treasure in that collection.

And now, we need to ask Cunard's to put the profits out of these sales into our rescue funds...  >:(

Aaaaarrrrrgggghhh!

Myles and Rob you have made me so angry  >:(  >:(  >:(

I treated myself to one of these as a post-Christmas pressie to myself (was hoping for a January sale but no such luck  :()
Am having it delivered to work but it hasn't arrived yet - and I'm not in now til Tuesday.
I've been trying SO HARD not to sign in and click on this thread but curiousity - and lack of willpower - has finally got the better of me.

Myles, and hollihedge, it does look lovely  ;D
Yours, in anticipation,
Ali

The two red books, the top one is the normal book, the one underneath is the leather bound version, with the numbered plate glued inside.
Both have the cover showing the price at £30.

A nice letter to quote part "We hope you enjoy your QE2 Farewell Season collection but if for any reason you are not satisfied pleased contact our office immediately and we will do our utmost to rectify the problem in line with your requirements"
Now does mean they are expecting complaints? l did pen a few lines with some comments.. and wait to hear what they have to say...
The velcro fasten on the red folders is quite strong, do take care ..!
Not sure what the collectable stationary was or is
It does arrive royal mail special delivery by 1pm wrapped in bubblewrap, encased in a cardboard box, within another cardboard box, top marks for presentation, and they have some left ;)

When it does arrive just pause for a moment and marvel at the black presentation cover, it does hit you in the face :o

l don't know if any one else splashed out but i treated my self to the package from the Manx post office with a limited leather bound edition of this signed by the author, together with numerous first day covers signed by various people, a limited edition print of the QE2's final departure from New York and other momentos of her. Its a lovely package limited to 736 pieces but not cheap -£350.00.
i'm not to sure when it is being withdrawn from sale, there are at least another 35 people who did buy it as mine in numbered 36.
