QM2 in New Zealand
« on: Mar 15, 2013, 07:48 PM »
Hi
If anyone is there...take a look right now at QM2's webcam
She is just entering Milford Sound, NZ's South Island
It looks every bit as impressive as it will have done from the Bit Beneath the Bridge on QE2

It was her maiden visit to Milford Sound. Stunning photo in yesterday's Daily Telegraph and lots in Mail online.

Thank you!
Interesting to see QM2 dwarfed by her surroundings...it was the same when we saw her from way up above (from Christ the Redeemer  statue) when she was parked in Rio two years ago, somehow she fits in better and looks more 'normal'!

Hello Flagship - and Skilly!
Did you see these?

To find the Mighty One on Akaroa is a real treat - we had very many happy days there too.
And - No sandflies on the E coast (these might well have blighted the Pax visit to Milford -
evil little beasties, they are - worse than midges, even!)

Hello Flagship,

Just noticed in the Daily Mail pics 4 and 5 that there's something very green fixed on her stbd side, up fwd - on her top deck(13?)...looks as if it might be Cornish fishing nets stitched together!
Is it new? Maybe it's something that Erin and the energetic golfers use?
('pity' about the colour ;) - QE2's netting and tarp looked as if it belonged!)
(btw - I can hardly bear to look at 'my bit' under the emergency little boat on deck 7...missing her so much, still - Cunard have a played a significant 'trick of addiction' here ;), and /or just as likely, it's the Sea itself :) !)

Hi Rosie,

Thanks for the heads-up. Akaroa is a beautiful place - as a 8-10 year old ! often went there for holidays, to the WWII army base at Tekau Bay. My father had the use of the large ex-RNZAF fast rescue boat that was based there for a while, so we saw a lot of the harbour. QM2 looks very imposing parked in there.
Just a little late catching up on the e-mails - had to do a run up from W.A. to Singapore, via Lombok, Java Sea, and Sth China Sea, and we lost the internet on day one!
Cheers
Skilly
