This is a new name to me, so I cannot help you with a reply to your question. I would love to hear more though about the work of a Chief Butcher, and perhaps even about the work of Alfred (Fredl) Moertner himself. How many other butchers were there, and did they all have particular duties?

Presumably he did not have to do any killing on board (at least I hope not!). Were the carcases delivered whole to the ship, were they hung in a cold store, and did he have to cut them according to the needs of the menu? I suppose some of the meat also went to the travelling dogs and cats :) .

Have you tried contacting Olle Bertilsson, Jeffery Morgan, Rudi Sodamin or Beat Hofer? All are on Facebook and may know Alfred's whereabouts.

Hi Beat - I don't recall where I read it, but I do not think it was very long ago.  Every few days, I do searches on line for anything QE2, and in so doing, come up with a lot of newspaper articles mainly, etc. that list QE2 as a keyword.  I tried to reconstruct the search but can not find it.  Sorry I can not be of more help but I will do a search periodically and see if anything appears.  June

Hi Beat - The reason I could not reconstruct my search is because that is not where the information came from.  I found it in a message from Louis De Sousa regarding the search for Alfred Moertner.  June
