Blogs mentioning QE2
« on: May 11, 2009, 10:06 PM »
Have just come across this one :

http://imahousewifegetmeouttahere-akim.blogspot.com/2009/05/from-sun-down-under-to-land-of-midnight.html

from another ex-crew member of QE2.

She also mentions QE2 elsewhere in her blog, so here is the more general URL :

http://imahousewifegetmeouttahere-akim.blogspot.com/

She says her name is Akim -- does anyone remember meeting her on board?

Oh my word - Chris! ('Evening btw!)
One of the best bits about the forum
is when feeling sad and depressed about QE2...
and then finding something good that's going to happen!

Please - will your blog be posted on here - with lots about THE RMSQE2?
What may happen for Cunard's 170th?
Wild dreaming now - the re-purchase of QE2 would certainly make them a Number 1 Hit!
Do you think Cunard might appreciate being a Big Hit again!?

Scrap or Sell: Cruise Ships Impacted as SOLAS 2010 Approaches
« Reply #4 on: Jun 03, 2009, 09:51 AM »
I have it on very good authority that everything in this article relating to QE2 is a load of nonsense.

http://www.cruisecritic.co.uk/news/news.cfm?ID=3250

QE2 didn't need much work at all to sail on through SOLAS-2010.  The reason she stopped sailing was very simply the offer from Dubai, which seemned too good to pass up on at the time.

It's not just the QE2. The bit about the Saga Rose becoming a hotel at Excel isn't that reliable either ::)

I saw this today, mentioning the QE2 briefly in relation to SOLAS 2010.  It is also interesting for a summary of vessels under threat and their potential fate.

Also this in a bit more detail about SOLAS 2010.

Not sure about the latter article - it makes it sound like the QE2 was nearly "driven" to destruction!

That 2nd article is even more outrageous and inaccurate than the first!  Its talking complete nonsense about QE2.  Her Hull and powerplant could have carried on for many, many years and she didn't require much work at all to sail through SOLAS2010 - not none, but not so much that it was a show-stopper either.

Because QE2 was built with the future in mind, and as far as safety was concerned with no expense spared, she's sailed through lots of changes in regulations either completely unchanged, or with minor changes.  That they had the foresight to use thin veneers of wood, rather than real wood like in the previous Queens, as well as fitting a proper water sprinkler system EVERYWHERE, in addition to the extensive fire & water doors are all examples of this.

Hi Rosie and Rob,

My guest blog article will actually be about Cunard's beginnings - Sir Samuel and the RMS Britannia - and sadly won't mention QE2.

Hopefully it will still be interesting. The We Are Cunard blog does mention QE2 each week in their "yesteryear" review - QE2's history being so much more extensive than most of the fleet.

Oh Chris!

Wouldn't it just about be possible to make a tiny wee mention why the 'RMS' - for all Cunard ships, including the Greatest Ocean-going Liner EVER?!
and.....Isn't QE2 the real reason for Cunard's continued significance"?!

and....Won't it be really very difficult indeed for you not to mention her name?!

and... Then your blog can be 'legit on here'!  (Bit of cross referencing, in any case).  That would be good.

Still very much looking forward....

PS - Might you be going to mention Liverpool too?!
(hope you aren't cross with me now!)

Do you expect a forum that relates to cruise ships to be in any way accurate, reliable or sensible when it comes to talk about "proper" ships  ;D

I'd like to be the first to congratulate our very own Chris Cunard (what a coincidence that name is!) for his guest blog!

Great Stuff, Chris!

Guess it really was a bit of a squeeze getting 'the magnificent QE2' in, together with the Boston Cup
(pace - other Chris!)
 - but then she could manage the Panama Canal too - and speed, whereas QM2 can't match her on that either... can she?
