Oriana Passengers refuse to leave ship
« on: Dec 13, 2012, 06:02 PM »
It is being reported in Southampton that in the morning when P & O ship "Oriana" is due to dock @ 3.00am a lot (no numbers available) of passengers are refusing to get off until they conduct a meeting with the Captain & Senior representatives from P & 0/.Carnival regarding the fact they have just sailed on an ill affected ship (Norovirus) were according to P & O (1843 pax sailed & only 9 affected). However pax suggest more than 400 were affected and alot of facilities where restricted and Pax where confined to their staterooms, where one pax reported, they found their steward vomiting in their toilet bowl.
A full deep clean has been scheduled as the ship will depart approx at 8.00 pm.
Why do these people not participate in personal hygiene, we have been on many a cruise in recent years & drink a lot(sometimes)so go to the loo frequently & observe the amount of fellow pax that don"t even wash their hands when leaving the washrooms is disgraceful (What do they expect in a confined space even on a large ship)
I await some interesting comments

I sailed on a QE2 cruise once, and the person in the cabin opposite me had his cabin deep cleaned one day, he had room service for his meals, free laundry and one night  l saw him at the Lido and enquired after his health. I was surprised to hear that he was still suffering and he took the view that why should he spend time confined to his cabin (MI grade) for something he cought through no fault of his own.
I wonder how many of us, in the same situation wouldnt think along the same lines?
You would think the buffet lines would be the first to be sorted in that only crew handling the serving tongs, Better to have one pair of hands serving 200 people than 200 people using the same serving tongs..
It will be interesting to see how Carnival handle this.
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!

It amazes me how some passengers go out of their way to avoid the hand sanitizer. I think it should be part of the terms & conditions on booking that use of this is compulsory. You can bet that those who refuse to use it will be the first to complain & sue.

Sadly, I am one of those. I always wash my hands before a meal, and on QE2 there was always a washbasin close to the restaurant. Having only just washed my hands, I often took just a minimal helping of the (compulsory) sanitiser, so as not to make my hands all sticky again...

I am not the suing type. Had I really picked up a virus, I would have done whatever was recommended and definitely gone nowhere I might have infected others. Fortunately, we never encountered norovirus on QE2 :) .

Trouble is Isabelle we don't know when we have picked up a virus on our hands, we need not necessarily be suffering ourselves.

As the sanitisers are alcohol based they evaporate completely and I have never noticed any sticky residue.

I do accept you personally would not sue however, perhaps my assertion on this was too general.

Sorry, I will not be changing my views on the sanitisers.
