« on: Dec 03, 2012, 01:33 PM »
As some of you are probably aware "Saga Ruby" is currently in dry dock for a re-fit and technical overhaul after cancelling her last voyage part way through and refunding all who were on board. This morning I here that her next voyage due to sail from Southampton on the 6th December 2012 for a 8 day cruise has also been cancelled. DOES ANYONE HAVE MORE INFO PLEASE !!

It seems we need not yet fear that she will end her sailing days before January 2014.

Luis Miguel Correia writes on his excellent web site "Ships and the Sea" :

Quote from: Luis Miguel Correia
The cruise ship SAGA RUBY arrived in Bremerhaven on 15 November from Leixões (Oporto, Portugal), where her cruise was shortened for technical reasons and the passengers disembarked. SAGA RUBY is now at the Kaiser Dock under the attention of Lloyd Werft undergoing extensive class and maintenance work and repairs in order to keep her in tip top conditon for another 13 months of contiuous cruising under the classic livery of SAGA CRUISES before she is taken out of service on January 7 2014. Repairs include the renewal of pipe work, the maintenance of pump, valves and fire-fighting equipment, steel repairs and the repair of cracks to superstructure supports and windows. Other scheduled work includes the cleaning of 16 tanks, the exchange of a generator and the cleaning and conservation of the hull of the ship. On December 4, SAGA RUBY returns to cruise service once more.

Have a look also at the beautiful pictures of Saga Ruby he took on 6 October 2012 :

She really looks splendid!

Her Advent Cruise, out of Southampton on 6 December, is listed on the Saga web site :

Hopefully, this will go ahead as planned!

Don't know what a 40yr inspection entails , but, crankshaft inspection isn't on the shopping list.
