Around the World on the QE2 is a personal narrative of the authors’ experiences during world cruises in 2006 and 2008. The book celebrates the end of an era. In 2008, the aging Queen was sold to Dubai to become a hotel, museum, and conference center.

Previous Perkins books include the best-selling textbook The American Tradition in Literature, the HarperCollins Reader’s Encyclopedia of American Literature, and numerous additional books written alone or with others. They have taught and lectured around the world, from Eastern Michigan University and the University of Toledo to Scotland, China, and Australia. The Society for the Study of Narrative has honored them with lifetime memberships and in the name of the annual Perkins Prize for the best book in narrative studies.

Could you please let us know a bit more more why you found QE2 so special that you wanted to create a book about her? We would all appreciate that. And it would be good if you told us some more about the book itself and its contents.

There are actually two books: AROUND THE WORLD ON THE QE2, volume I; China  to England, and AROUND THE WORLD ON THE QE2,  volume 2, New York to Australia. They are large format paperbacks (8 1/2 X 11 inches), about 125 pages each, profusely illustrated, with a combined total of perhaps 100 color photos taken on the voyages, which were one or both listed as final voyages before the sale to Dubai. We think that people who care about the QE2 will find them very interesting. As far as we know, there is nothing else like them.

Unfortunately, they are published as print on demand books by Lulu.com. We have no extra copies and they cannot be found in bookstores. Try the site connection we sent before, or simply Google George and Barbara Perkins, Lulu.com and the book titles.
