Anyone on board in the early days -- is this seller telling the truth about this picture? Did this really hang in the Queen's Room?

I first joined in 1971 and I do not recall it. Nor do I recall ANY adornments to the Queens room, Michael Inchbald who did most of the design work on the Queens room would have had a fit if something like this adorned his creation.
I am not saying that it did not hang somewhere else...selective memory perhaps?

There is also the thing about"given to him by the Captain".....as far as I know unless the gift was given in a private
ceremony and classified as personal to the Capt and marked as such, then the "gift"  became the property of QE2 and Cunard line, not for the Capt to give away!

Thank you, Rod. Yes, the whole thing seems more than fishy.

I suppose there would have been one other way in which it could have been legally "given by the Captain", i.e. if he was doing it officially on behalf of Cunard. Which is very unlikely...

Viewing it in larger image format, does the outline of the ship - especially the penthouse area - match the claim it was made in 1970?

I think not.   The photo shows the first set of penthouse suites installed in 1972.  The photo was taken between 1972 and 1977 as the QM and QE suites were added in 1978.

Thanks But already have two of these, However for what its worth, its mentioned as "used" :o :o   and the seller is breaking the ebay rules with this listing.

You could in theory, place a bid, report the item for various reasons..and it would be removed, then contact the seller and you might, just might, get it for the price.... But that is not in the spirit of Ebay.

Good Evening Myles, I have been in touch with Karen--(the seller)--and she has ammended the listing. Maybe i will put in a bid later on.

Presumably this is Nick Bates himself selling... I had to smile at the self-deprecating humour in the description!

Did you notice the user ID as well?  Certainly a distinctive element of humour there...  :)

It still isnt correct and does not comply fully with the ebay terms and conditions.

It might seem expensive..but if you actually have  the real one then you can judge for yourself. Personally lv owned one for many years But l would still gladly pay around £20 for the item. It is also heavier than it looks.
Another example of bad ebay listing policy it is quite clearly a pen knife, but try selling such things and your up against a brick wall

To reply to you Myles--the lady has been in touch with E-Bay and they have allowed the auction to go ahead. At the end of the day--does it REALLY matter THAT much to the average bidder if the item does not comply  with the conditions?

There is also the following at the end of her description---

IN COMPLIANCE WITH EBAY POLICY

The value of the Auctioned Item is in the Collectible Container, Not it's contents.
The Container has not been opened, but that any incidental contents are not intended for consumption.
The item is not available at any retail outlet, and the container has a value that substantially exceeds the current retail price of the alcohol in the container.
Buyers of these collectibles must be of lawful age (18 Years old in the UK., 21 Years old on the US.
I am in Compliance with all the applicable laws and delivery regulations in carrying out this transaction.
I Cannot be held responsible for breakage of glass in transit

Im afraid Ebay have these policies in place to protect both the buyer and seller. If people decide to disregard these conditions.....well that is entirely upto them..and l shall say nothing more on this subject..

That does in fact meet the e-Bay rules; these things can indeed be sold as collectibles in those circumstances - but certainly not for consumption.
