Nice keepsake of the Cunard QE2 Farewell Celebration Voyage 11-17th November 2008---

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Wedgwood-Limited-Edition-Collectable-Cunard-QE2-Farewell-Plate-2008-/300606351430?pt=UK_Collectables_Nautical&hash=item45fd88e846

When these first cropped up on ebay,l asked the seller (not this one) why he had so many of them,at the time he had 50, his reply was somewhat surprising in that for it to be a limited ::) edition he had purchased the bulk load from an auction house...

  Another nice keepsake here---

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DOUGLAS-FAIRBANKS-JR-CUNARD-QUEEN-ELIZABETH-2-AUTOGRAPH-SIGNED-MEMBERSHIP-CARD-/130583597621?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e67639235

Is this a genuine signiture, Im asking because when these cards were issued to passengers at checkin. the checkin lady filled in the cabin number and voyage number, you then signed it in front of her. And they were a gold colour. unless entertainers had their own version....?

Nice find here--book of the QE2 signed by "Captain Ronald R Warwick"

All he needs to do now is add the section about his time onboard in Dubai, and his thoughts on the Final Voyage to bring it upto date...

The above pen reminds me of one I had and is hopefully still in a box somewhere.  It was one of those pens with the liquid filled ends and background scenery with a sliding QE2 going back and forth as the pen is tipped.  I think one side was Southampton and the other New York.

The pens are more affectionately known as floaty pens. Four or five years ago l sold a set of 2 new and unopened for £22. Bought onboard in June 1986.

I've got one from 2000 squirreled away, having taking it back from my kids, for safe keeping.  I could be wrong, but I swear I had one of these with Queen Mary in NYC as a kid growing up, a souvenier from my great grandparents trip on her to the states.

Is there a member of the crew that can recall this being sold on board?---or maybe Rob or Myles?

I bought my two tins of beer years ago, and then sold one with a good profit. But wasnt this produced for one of the Jap charters
The seller as it happens, should be quite easy to guess who it is....and may be a bit of a surprise.. ;)

Quite a decent size then; is there much detail inside it, such as beds in the cabins and tables in the restaurant areas etc r is it simply a representation of the structure and rooms?

The link that Rob posted to the mug works every time here Rosie--maybe your computer needs some "fine tuning" as you should not need to go through the sellers shop to see what he is selling.
Good Morning Bob. Nice to see you on site .Have you had a better night with your health. You have got to be No 1 look out for items on E-Bay  ;D

Oh!
Please can we think about these in the context of QE2 in 1968?

Am i right in thinking they are a bit of a 'crying shame'!!
Not least, because they've been recovered   :o
and by the looks of the 'legs', do you think they look as if they've been re- 'painted'?

(Didn't 'black' furniture in the sixties 'go with' Chrome, or better still, Danish rosewood etc,
with any shiny black 'bits'/arms being made of leather - and definitely not vinyl!?
These are a reminder of the eighties and minimalist loft spaces in NYC!)

Rob, Highlander and flagship and Everyone - what do you think?
Did Robert Heritage design these in black?
These chairs are 'smart'  - but they wouldn't remind me of the genuine article.

Maybe this post and ongoing discussion can go to QE2 Furniture eventually?

or here under restaurants

with a reference to this topic so that the ebay sellers' description is included?
QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

I'm certain that ALL of the seats on board QE2 have been re-covered since 1968!  So the fact that these have been recovered is fairly OK with me.  Its the shape and design of the chair that is so unique and special.  The legs appear to be 'naked' aluminium to me and unaltered - complete with the original sticker.  I'm told that there are around 150 seats left (in PG) out of the 1500 that were originally on board.

QE2 originally was all about dramatic contrastic colours - white, blacks, indigos, bright reds, bright greens - and to me (no design expert though!) the striking black of these is in keeping with the late 60s.

... oh and I think its amazing that these chairs are true saught after collectors items, and design classics, 18 years (by my reckoning?) after the last ones were removed from the ship.
