True, they were in existence as far back as WW1, but only became more regularly incorporated into ship design when speed and fuel efficiency became more relevant as ships became larger and these factors became more critical.

A sad image taken shortly after she was beached back in 2017. She is all long gone now apart from what would be found in the markets at Alang that sell/have a massive variety of things from the ships, even lifeboats, and what may or may not have been salvaged by Peter Knego . I haven't heard of anything in regards to what he may have been able to salvage unless anyone knows otherwise?

Peter Knego commented on Maritime Matters that he would not be pursuing fittings from the Saga Ruby/Vistafjord as he understood that most of the origional fittings were removed during the hotel conversion work in Thailand.

Had he bothered to read my post of 8th Sept 2017 he would have known that they had gone long before that, some as far back as 1998!

Sad to hear in both cases as the chances of things being around for those interested in collecting and fans of the ship are much slimmer

Mind you some things were 'liberated' from the dry dock when she changed from Vistafjord to Caronia.

My 3 children had been on the summer and, as there was a 2 for 1 deal on that particular cruise, all the single cabins hadn't been sold, for obvious reasons. There they were each allocated a single cabin.

When we were dry dock in Bremmerhaven and the de-Vistafjording was underway i persuaded the contractor who was changing the glass fingers panels/cabin numbers to let me have the three from my children's cabin.
They had them on their bedroom doors until long after they had left home and gone to uni, now they are in our family 'Cunard Memorabilia' box!
