A Very Unique QE2 Cutaway
« on: May 12, 2012, 04:01 PM »
This is the most unique cutaway rendering of QE2 that I've seen to date.  Apparently it was created when the ship was brand new in 1969 judging from the layout of the decks and public rooms.  The below photo of the cutaway is from this webpage - http://www.travelserver.net/travelpage/ubb-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=001664

Anyone have an original copy of this or seen this graphic before?

I have one framed and several nicely folded. It came in the 1969 / 1970 book 'Pleasure Island' about QE2. Love the title of this cutaway on the cover: 'QE2. Anatomy of a Holiday.'

I have a French travel agent display (45.5 x 33 cm) from the 70s that shows this cutaway. Text is in French but the display was printed in England.

This is one of the oldest QE2 items in my collection. I was 12 when it was given to me by a French travel agent in 1977, along with other Cunard and French Line «old stuff».

I think the French text is the exact translation of «Anatomy of a Holiday», however the word «Anatomie» in French would have sounded a bit too medical, so they used «Superstructure» instead, which in fact makes perfect sense!

This display can be seen in the 2012 edition of the Cunard Log Book (page 47)

I would like to bring forward this topic again in case some of our "newer" Forum members have not seen it.  The cutaway of QE2 is very interesting and different from the way most cutaways are presented.  June   :)

Just spotted an unusual cutaway drawing of QE2 by John S. Smith that I never saw before:

I think it's lovely.

Just  beautiful maybe said owner(s) might be co-erced into having a few run off as numbered copies ;)
