2010 - cruises

Reading another thread from Jerry posted earlier elsewhere has given me an idea.  If heading off on a cruise then consider posting your details here and see if anyone else is travelling at the same time.

I think this topic is a nice idea to allow the Forum members to meet up on common ground.

However for those of you who don't know already, do bear in mind that both CruiseCritic and CunardCritic offer lively "Roll Calls" where you can meet many more people online who will be on your cruise and discuss it both before and afterwards.  If it wasn't for the CruiseCritic Roll Call, I'd never have met SingleMalt Ali and therefore never got to dine in PG with her and her Mum which would have been a tragedy!

Who has any trips booked for 2010 -when and where.  Sadly no sea time for me yet apart from a short jaunt on an Irish ferry :)

Actually I'll be joining QM2 for a short portion of the World Cruise - from Singapore to Hong Kong.

As for land trips, my mother is thinking of a short trip to Beijing in April. And who know what trips my friends and I might plan as well.

I wonder whether any of these will lead to mini-meets of the QE2Story Forum on board various ships?

I have a couple at planning stage (not yet confirmed) -- SS Rotterdam in February, and Marco Polo in April.

Something on vikki, in October, fly to Barcelona, a jaunt around the med & fly back from Venice, (much smoother than the Bay of Biscay eachway  methinks)

Only if Cal mac Cally Isles does Rob!! LOL

To be honest cant get any excitement for any cruise....we lift a brochure then just put it down again... with no QE2 to sail on theres no incentive.......,not for us anyway,,...maybe we have been spoiled???

having said that we tried for  the northern lights on Marco Polo in March but its sold out....but arent over bothered....there are HUNDREDS of ships to choose from......too many...and not a decent one between them!

I was looking at the cunard brochure and noticed that QM2 is doing a 4 nighter and a 2 nigher this year.

I started thinking about it, started doing my sums, and then realised i simply couldn't be bothered!

I sailed on the Marco Polo in 1965 across the atlantic to Montreal when she was the USSR Alexandr Puskin. I always check to she what she's still doing.

I'm going on the QM2 for the 2 night cruise to Cherbourg. My brother is coming over from Germany to go with me. It's a dummy run to see if I can manage a E/W to W/E crossing some time in the future. (I use an electric wheelchair)

That'll be perfect for you.  We did a 2 nighter on QE2 and it was fun, and it was enough time to try things out and explore the ship.  I'd probably suggest that you don't do an excursion though, and just stay on board and continue exploring!

It's called "the hair of the dog"!

You've had a year of mourning now, hopefully feelings are no longer quite so raw...

... for me, the best thing was to take a break from Cunard and try something completely different. The first hour or so was hard -- but my good friends (thank you!!) helped by seeing me off and waving frantically from the shore as the ship left. And after that -- it was all different and unexpectedly nice. That was Black Prince, another of those fine old ships with an uncertain future, and I am glad I got a chance to see her.

... but you may find that, on the contrary, going back to Cunard may be the best for you. Seeing some of the friendly QE2 faces, receiving some of that excellent service, knowing pretty much how things work -- that must have its advantages too. And you could organise a QE2 get-together on board!

Strangely enough l flicked open the brochure, long since arrived but put aside as it had no interest! and noticed the 2 nighter, for a moment l thought shall l have a very big slice of humble pie figured out the costings, gasped at the price, then looked for the single cabins, and realised how stupid of me.. ???of course Cunard dont want us :(

So lm resigned to the Queen Mary (the proper one) My original booking for the Queen Elizabeth, long since cancelled, But you know what, l have realised something which even l was surprised at....
There is life after Cunard....... Not that lm saying l wont ever sail with them again....Just not quite yet
(off topic now... :-X)
In 2005 l did try the MSC Melody, around the med on one of those cheap £10 newspaper promotions,(even had an upgrade) It confirmed  l could never do another fly cruise, But that l was certainly open to trying something different, granted it probably wont be Cunard, But hey thats life...

Is anyone going to the gala event for the new MSC Magnifica in Southampton at the end of the month?  Overnight on board as well......might get me in the mood for cruising again....but  then again ...maybe not.......
