I thought you would like to see this photo of the Waverley when she was escorting the QV from Greenock in July 2010.  You can see that her engines were working very hard to keep up with the ship.  She looks magnificent.

Lovely photo Lynda, thanks!!  I think Waverley can do 16 knots fairly easily, a tiny bit more if pushed!

Hi All,

Waverley could just touch 18knots on a good calm day. She was hitting in excess of 16knts yesterday evening as we rushed to land an ill passenger at Largs. Unfortunately she sustained damage to her port paddle wheel which meant repairs had to be carried out alongside at Largs. This meant a final return to Glasgow at 0100 !!

Today she undertakes her final Clyde Season cruise after which she will head for the South Coast and Thames. She will return for one final weekend on the Clyde in October.

Thanks to those on the forum who supported to World's only Seagoing Paddlesteamer to date this season!!

As a Waverley first timer this season; I can DEFINITELY say I'll be back for more!
Just waiting to see how school work pans out first but would love to make it up there for the final Clyde weekend..... and if not; roll on next season. She's a beautiful old lady!

Will you be involved with any ongoing work when she's laid up over the Winter?
If so, you'll have to keep us updated with photos and info  :)

PS Hope your post-cruise blues have disappeared with the sunny weather!

Hi Singlemalt,

Post cruise blues were replaced with work blues in the shape of a trip to Calcutta!!  >:( Still I suppose the Emirates Business Class flights made up for it a wee bit (and the view of QE2 when we came into land at Dubai on Sat morning)

On the subject of Waverley I will be involved with her at points throughout the winter on board and through my position on the Council of the PSPS. Any foties I have or take will be posted here no worries. You can also keep up with things at www.pspsscotland.com

The final clyde weekend this year will be an emotional one as Jim McFadzean - Waverley's legendary purser retires after 23yrs!  :-[ The Sunday will be a tear jerker!!

Hope to see you (and others on here) back on the ship again next season.

News of Waverley's travels yesterday

Steaming from Southampton to Weymouth, conditions were such
that PS Waverley's planned call at Bournemouth was cancelled;
it sounded from friend's message that it was a wee bit choppy!

Everyone also enjoyed watching the Rescue Helicopter out on exercise.

Waverley has suffered quite a bit of disruption for various reasons while on the solent - a pity - she moves onto the Thames at the end of the week so heres hoping for a smoother run. She returns for one day to view the new QE then back to the Clyde. I hope theres a weather window for Lands End or we'll be boatless that weekend  :-[

Glasgow Evening Times has published an article today about the financial difficulties facing the Waverley as a result of rising fuel costs.

A wee update on the World's Only Sea Going Paddle Steamer,

She is currently still in Garvel Dry Dock due to delays on works being carried out on her rudder. This was the reason she was unable to carry out her timetabled sailings last weekend on the Clyde. It is hoped that she will commence her Bristol Channel sailings as timetabled on Friday.

Given the volume of pre-booked sailings for last weekend it was a disaster that she was unable to sail - the company could do with the revenue at the moment.

Keep your fingers crossed folks - we're in for a rough season this year!!

I was so sorry to hear about the problems that the Waverley was having.  It must be difficult for the ship to get revenue within in such a short season then to lose out on the Bank Holiday trips that is so sad.

My fingers and toes are crossed for a successful season for this beautiful ship.

There is an article in the Scotsman 17 August 2011 basically saying that there has been a 32% increase in the number of passengers on the Waverley in July 2011 compared to July 2010.  The Charity that owns the Waverley is hoping this increase will help with their financial situation and secure the future of ship.  32,500 sailed on PS Waverley during July.
