Ships Daily Tote

Evey day at sea the Ships Daily Tote was played this enabled passengers to guess the milage from noon until noon.Did anyone ever had a go at this?

I wonder who ran this - was it done from the Cruise Director's Dept?

For various technical reasons, the Daily Tote didn't feature very highly on board QE2 in her latter years of Service.

Cruise did the leg work, first picking up the phone to the bridge and asking the navigator who converted nautical miles to regular miles.  Then cruise alerted the winner. 

Don't recall what was the prize, but I did get to see some results in cruise office.  If I remember one time the ship was going nearly flat out, the answers varied between 75 miles and 1400 miles.    

Remember if the ship was blistering along at 30 knots (34.6mph) for 24 hours she could cover over 800 miles.

Each bet costed 2 US dollars the prizes if i recall was QE2 items for the shops.

In 1986 the ships daily tote board was taken round several parts of QE2 by the cruise staff, you picked a number from out of l think 20 on the board and it only cost a $. The correct number was announced shortly after noon.. l recall picking the correct number and collected l think about $20..
Then again its was when she was doing 5 night crossings.

I recall the tote on QE (1940) and the entry was $1, the prize was paid in cash (don't know the amount), and no, I never won.
