This Christmas, one of my most wonderful presents was a QE2 jigsaw from 1967 (sic!), showing her arrival in New York City, with all the skyscrapers in the background :

The completed jigsaw of QE2 by prondis_in_kenya, on Flickr

My Mum, Pia and I managed to complete this 500-piece jigsaw in two evenings, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The picture is not only of a beautiful ship, but it is also beautifully painted.

This made me wonder whether anyone would like to borrow it? I would be happy to put it into circulation, sending it to the first person who wants to give it a go, and just ask for it to come back to us in time for next Christmas.

I would place a paper in the box, indicating who worked on it, when and for how long, so that we can collect a "history" of the tour it takes, and can perhaps work out who took the longest, and who assembled it the fastest!

Anyone interested?

I would love to give making up the jigsaw a try.  Put me on the list of people wanting to try out the jigsaw.  It will be interesting to see how many places the jigsaw visits on it's travels.

I would strongly advise using Special Delivery if sending this through the postal system...

Nice to see the interest! Could I then ask Lynda to send me her address by PM -- and Louis, could you send yours to Lynda, please?

Next person, please let us know here -- and then send your address by PM to Louis so that he can forward the jigsaw after it has been laid.

No hurry by the way -- we have all year to circulate this within the Forum, and if necessary, even longer.

Have fun!    :D

Not yet, Louis. This will happen at the beginning of February, and it will be to Lynda. Hope you will enjoy it when it comes!

A great idea Is and will certainly have a go but it will be a while before I have the time unfortunately.  However, may I suggest that each person posts a picture of themselves alongside the completed puzzle

What a brilliant idea Isabelle. I would love to join in however would not recommend anyone trying to send it to me in the Middle East. It just cost me 70GBP to courier home my driving licence couterpart so a 60GBP speeding fine could be paid! Maybe when I'm back in the UK I can join in  ;D

Have fun

I was delighted when the postman delivered the jigsaw this morning.  I am going to take some time tomorrow to start but as it has been some time since I last done a jigsaw puzzle it may take some time to make up the puzzle.   ;D

Watch this space for progress report.  ;D

Louis, you are in for a treat.  I thoroughly enjoyed spending time on making up the Jigsaw.  I must admit it took longer than I had expected as I had worked on it for a total of 10 hours.  But it became quite addictive and I found it hard to leave it.   When completed the jigsaw gives a good perspective of QE2.  I loved making up the part of the jigsaw with the tug a the front of the photo.  There was such a lot of detail in this small boat.

I will put the jigsaw in the post to Louis either tomorrow or Wednesday.

It would be good if some other members also volunteered for this fun project.

Well done, Lynda! That is good proof that you managed :)

So glad to see that you had some fun (and no doubt some good memories) with this puzzle!

How could I forget the skyscrapers.  When I started to complete that section it looked like I had lots of pieces the same colour but once I tuned in it was quite a good section to do, especially as I had left that section to last and I knew the jigsaw would be completed when I finished that area.

My Mum worked on that section -- saying "How can anyone build such an ugly ship?"... Until she realised that it was not a ship at all, but a skyscraper. Nowadays, it is often the opposite -- we see a skyscraper, and only later realise that it is actually a ship!
