QE2 deck names and numbering of decks

I am wondering if any of you lovely people can give me the answer to a couple of questions. ?
Why on the QE2 was it One Deck, Two Deck etc. but on other Cunard ships it was Deck One, Deck Two etc. ?
and also......is it possible to find out who might have stayed in certain staterooms ?     My first voyage was No. 839 in Stateroom 1073  and I have also been in 1024, 1049 and 1030.  As I understand that 1030 was one of he original First Class staterooms I have often wondered who might have occupied it.

Your contributions to the photographic competitions have not passed unnoticed, and you have not only taken a prize winning picture, but many other beautiful ones as well. It will be lovely to hear more about your times on board, including your memories of the staterooms you mention.

As regards your question, I have no idea why there was a discrepancy in deck names between QE2 (the only Cunard ship I have known, apart from Caronia -- and I cannot remember the deck names on her...) and some other Cunard ships. Which of them did you have in mind? Perhaps the Forum members who know these ships might be able to hazard a guess?

I have a Caronia Deck Plan here, but sadly cannot read the small print...  ... maybe a brochure will mention the names of the decks.

In the meantime, I have found a 2001 brochure, which lists the Caronia decks as :

Bridge Deck (Upper level)
Bridge Deck
Sun Deck
Promenade Deck
Veranda Deck
Upper Deck
Main Deck
A Deck
C Deck

C Deck only had the pool and health club; passenger cabins ended at A Deck.

Just a word by the way - the "guests" are mostly internet spiders!  For example at this precise moment, there are 93 guests, but only  a maximum of 8 are real people.  However, this means that your question has been indexed and is available to anyone forever on internet search engines - which might ultimately get you an answer!  This is also why it is crucial to give your topics and messages good subjects, and use good text which people are likely to search for.

e.g. "Why did QE2's decks have names"   or "why did QE2's decks not have numbers?"  - will these google searches find your message?

In March 1964 it was agreed that the five accommodation decks would be named Main, Upper, A, B, C. This was in keeping with the original Queens.

In April 1964 this was amended: Upper became Foyer.

By December 1966 the final naming scheme (One, Two, Three) had been agreed.

So the original names and final names were:

Observation   Signal
Sports   Sports
Boat   Boat
Verandah   Upper
Promenade   Quarter
Main   One
Foyer   Two
A   Three
B   Four
C   Five
D   Six
E   Seven
F   Eight

In answer ri the original query the practice of 'Deck 2', 'Deck 4' as opposed to Two Deck and Four Deck ony started with QM2. and then the numbers went upwards in the ship rather than downwards as on QE2.

Did all Cunarders have the letter of the deck first - as in A Deck, B Deck etc?

Somehow Upper Deck, Observation Deck, and then reversed to Deck One, Deck Two etc sounds more appropriate in a way. (Was I the only one who used Deck 3, Deck 4, Deck 5 etc on QE2?  )

Interesting too, to note that Deck 7 wasn't named the Boat Deck, or the Promenade Deck on board QM2
(It's good - 7 being unforgettable for lots of reasons!   )
