A New Transatlantic Blue Riband Liner?
« on: Apr 05, 2009, 01:15 PM »
If we can't have a new state of the art/cutting edge British built Queen Elizabeth  how about British Yards tender for the latest/sleekest and fastest 60knots Transatlantic Liner designed and built in Britain for the 21st Century using the latest materials and fashions.
Her name-Diana-Princess of Wales
Perhaps owned by Mr Branson who can then go for the The Blue Riband/Hales Trophy proper.
Sealed bid Design Tenders should be submitted no later than 9am 25/12/09 to DreamOnYour'ehavingalaugh.co.uk

Perhaps Richard Branson would be interested in returning QE2 to the UK should the Dubai plans fall over; Great publicity!!

Yes Chris!
We could of course call the new liner simply Lady Diana. I was thinking sleek and beautiful here. Either way it would mean our beloved QE2 retains her iconic status and name in her own right. Is 60 knots feasible in a 50000+tonnage Transatlantic Liner Design?
All design ideas ideas welcome and once assembled we can present them to Sir Richard who will no doubt sort out the return of QE2 and Concorde at the same time.!

Stephen Payne, in January, thought the future of ship propulsion might be nuclear steam power - and taking up far less space than a normal cruise ship's powerplant.

With 'unlimited' 'free' power available, maybe something in excess of SSUS's amazing speed is feasible in the not too distant future.

Rob,

Jade would be an excellent choice for her name.

Surely if Richard Branson/Virgin owned it, it would be called 'Virgin Queen'  ;D

On the plus side, he wouldnt need to change his trading name 'Virgin Atlantic' for it to remain appropriate to this new venture....

She will have a Harrys Bar and Wills Bar. The Whistle will be Tubular Bells.

As long as the Logo isn't on her Funnel....

Come to think of it, VIRGIN might look quite good where CUNARD was painted on the superstructure!

What Class - Not Vista - please!

She would definitely need a Crystal Bar - a Chart Room, a LIbrary - and crucially, a 'Walk the Whole Way Around' Deck.

Deck plans - all you creative types - please!

Has anyone drawn her yet?
QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

Great ideas Rosie!
We need to get this drawn up-A unique shape- perhaps like a powerboat front with a QE2 style Bridge and funnel and a rear like one of those posh yachts. Maybe someone here can use their drawing skills and we'll put it forward to Sir Richard. I see an indoor and outdoor pool with jacuzzis and wave machines.
Whilst sleek/modern and cutting edge is the name of the game I would be happy to see a red telephone box and pillar box in the pursers office to remind us of her Britishness!
Keep the ideas coming everyone!

Hmm, Virgin (Trans)Atlantic and sporting a large union flag on the funnel to display her Britishness. Classy....

Anyway, what's wrong with Vistas then Rosie? (he he that'll spark Rob off no doubt lol!)
