Wardroom Memorabilia

Hello there,

just wondering what happened to all the wardroom memorabilia.

There were some wonderful items i.e.

The portraits of Queen Elizabeth 2 and the Duke of Edinburgh which were on loan from Buckingham Palace with original letter on reverse, the models, plaques, the bell, and the visitors guest book which was signed by The Queen as well as other Royals and VIP dignitaries.

It would be fabulous to see these items again somewhere, if at all possible.

Its all been very carefully catalogued and indexed, then carefully wrapped up and packed, then taken to secure storage for preservation - like all the memorobilia on board.  This is being done by an expert fine arts company who very much know what they're doing.

That's good news Rob, does anyone recall where the visitors book ended up, I remember being shown that late one evening and it formed the most amazing record of the ships celebrity guest over the years, HMQ, Buzz Aldrin, Jimmy Saville, Alan Whicker...I would love to see it again!

I would LOVE to know where that went. We were offered $250,000 for it by one of the entertainers.

I am so glad to hear these treasures are being carefully preserved and kept out of harm's way.  It would indeed be terrible to
lose any of this history.

I have something interesting to share, as I did not see anyone else mention the item, or ever see it on eBay.  Back in September
of 2006 on board QE2, I purchased a packet of 4 plastic-encased menus in a big plastic envelope.  A friend saw them in the QE2
Bookshop and alerted me.  I saw them and bought them immediately.

They were done by an artist named "Erich Senn" dated 2005. Each plastic place card is in color, printed on both sides, in the style
of colorful cartoons.  What makes them so much fun, is that on each side of the place card are the most hilarious scenes from QE2
running the gamut of scenes in the laundry room, to a flame up on a flambe cart in the Caronia Restaurant, as well as scenes from
the Lido, and passengers in the 'smoking corner' area of the ship. There is also a scene of dancing in the Queens Room, and on
another, of passengers doing painting and other hobbies on board.  Oh, and the place cards measure 11" x14" - a nice size.

I find them utterly hilarious.  Does anyone know about, or have, these place cards ?  The other question I would ask, in the spirit of fun of course, is that in every scene, there are shown 2 or 3 or more mice, under tables and in various areas near people, and in
almost every single area of the scene.  They are right out there !!!    I have no recollection of every hearing that QE2 had any problems with mice, but there it is !   I take them out every now and then, just to look at them.  I've still got the original receipt
from the Book Shop, and I do not believe I could ever give them up !!  They are just so much fun to look over.

Any thoughts on this set of place cards, and does anyone have them ?

Wardroom guest book

Personally, I would love to know the fate of the Wardroom Guest book as it was called.
The first page was signed across the page, by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, that went from side to side, then underneath, in much smaller writing the signature of the Dule of Edinburgh, with this comment: "Normally I would have demanded a page to myself"
Sadly the book was signaturely abused, by one Wardroom President, who allowed un-famous people to sign it.
One of the entertainers...Jack Loghlan???? or some name like that, a magician or something, offered 1 million sterling for it.
The book resided in my cabin for 6 months while I was Wardroom President.

The Wardroom Book is safe in Glasgow.

Some people signed it more than once....

"Normally I would have demanded a page to myself"

If my memory serves me correctly that remark was actually made by Richard Burton who signed on the same page as Elizabeth Taylor.
The book was kept in the Radio Room, and I remember looking at it many times during quiet moments on the 12-4.

Some people signed it more than once....

Beautiful legible handwriting, which does not seem to have changed over the years.

Did they use their own pens, I wonder?

A quiet moment on the 12-4! Are you kidding? ;-) What happened to the gnome?
