We need your help to choose the dates of key QE2 events for the QE2 Story Calendar!

Within a Calendar you would expect dates such as Christmas, Easter or Bank Holidays noted.  But as this is the QE2 Story Calendar we want to choose one QE2 key event for each month of the year.  For instance for the month of September the key date we would want to highlight would be 20 September, the date she was launched.

As you know there already has been extensive work done on the QE2 Story timeline which may be useful
http://timeglider.com/app/viewer.php?uid=line_c7e17b99041ca5aa04221f37eb6bddb4

We will keep this topic open until the end of August when the QE2 Story Moderator Team will choose from your suggestions one QE2 key event for each month.

We hope you will have fun thinking of dates we could use. So now is your opportunity to start thinking about what dates you would choose then post your suggestions below  ……

Lynda just a suggestion if space is still free it would be nice to add the date of the members when they first stepped onboard, this was also a key time in our lifes.

Took a look at it from the perspective of significant anniversaries, here are a few for 2012

30th Anniversary of QE2 being called up for the Falklands Campaign (can also add the subsequent campaign events) - May 3rd
25th Anniversary of QE2 being returned to Cunard following  re-engining - April 25th
10th Anniversary of Cunard announcing QE2 to be withdrawn from Transatlantic service - May 13th

It would be a huge task, BUT why not have every day a QE2 day, in that mosts days have a QE2 theme, ie final visit or maiden call.. October you could devote dates for her Farewell visit to UK ports and USA.
It again might depend on the style of calendar, if its spiral bound do we have one page per month so that only one A4 page is showing OR do we have 2 pages per month, the top one being a lovely photo and the bottom page the calendar view

I think Louis has a good idea, why not mention the members first and last time on QE2, it is after all a members calendar. Then again 750 members 2 dates each, that could be problematic.
We could dispense with various public dates/ holidays, Xmas dates etc With the calendar going world wide UK dates would not be a good idea.

Having just re read Lyndas post, forget what l just said, But one key date per month....  l imagine its very limited in what can be written in the space.
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!

Lynda -
Is the calendar going to be for writing appointments in - or more of a creative experience?

'Way back' in March 2009
this topic became a daily occurrence
however, since the advent of the timeline, it may have been edited a fair bit!

Might it be helpful to you?

QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

There are many dates in the timeline, and no real problem for the Moderators to find one or two significant ones for every month.

What we wanted to suggest, however, was that members let us know what dates they find particularly significant in a given month. This means that we could have some dates in the calendar in 2012, and some different dates the following year :)  .

If you want to have a look at the timelines as they stand so far, they are here :

Thanks for your responses.

I like your idea CAP of linking into significant anniversaries.

Thanks also to Twynkle for the link to anniversaries that were compiled over a period of time.

In response to some of your questions:

The aim is for members to identify QE2 Key dates.  It would become a bit unmanageable to include every key event within QE2's working life, that is why the Moderator team will choose key dates, from your suggestions, to be included in the 2012 Calendar.

In response to Cunardqueen and Twynkle's questions on the design of the Calendar. It will be  A3 in size (17" x 12") spiral bound at the top.  There will be one page per month with QE2 photo on the top half of the page and the monthly calendar at the bottom half of the page.  The focus is intended to be QE2, so you could say it is more of a creative experience.

I will be discussing with the printer next week some of the finer details which will include how the dates will be flagged within the Calendar space.

Keep thinking of more key dates.  We appreciate your input.  :)

Thank you, Lynda! That is an excellent colllection, making it easier to select dates.

I was trying to go for some colourful dates in our timeline, so that we can remember all the amazing things that she did and that happened to her in the course of the years...

Lynda - thank you very much - and looking forward to opening the document
Please - is there a way that you can post it in Word as a doc - without an x (that is .doc rather than .docx ??)
Very many thanks - what with this, the photo competition, spammers and all things besides - you must the busiest person Ever, on the Forum!

Yes - and Thank You very much, Lynda

I notice that the grounding near 'Martha's Vineyard' is an event suggested for commemorating QE2 in August.
As the incident off Cutty Hunk Island  continues to hold memories that remain particularly difficult,
instead - please do you think it would be possible for the following anniversary to be included?

'August 4 2000: The passengers, Master, and ship's Crew sent a message to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth,The Queen Mother congratulating her on attaining her 100th birthday'

Alternatively, you might prefer:
August 9 1990: QE2 completes her 500th transatlantic crossing, Southampton to New York

In no way would we expect anything to be censored on the Forum.
However, hopefully it might be possible to make things easier next August!
